Are the posted questions getting worse?

  • Thanks, guys! 🙂

Steve, I thought pork chops for breakfast were just a southern thing.

Alvin, I'm sorely tempted this morning to get out of the office and drive up your way. Put on a fresh pot in an hour?

Flo, I'm really looking forward to your article... errr articles... errrr book.... I just hope it doesn't turn into your life's work.

I'd have to do some searching, might be in that thread he started when he mentioned he wanted to get his PhD, that the M.C.A. is a Master in Computer Application.

    Yup. That's it.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Master_of_Computer_Applications

Master of Computer Applications (MCA) is a three-year (six semester) professional Master's Degree in computer science awarded in India. The course was designed to meet the growing demand for qualified professionals in the field of Information Technology (computer software). It is a postgraduate course that can be taken up after obtaining a Bachelor's Degree.

The MCA program focuses on providing a sound theoretical background as well as good practical exposure to students in the relevant areas. It is intended to provide a modern, industry oriented education in applied computer science. It aims at producing trained professionals who can successfully meet the demands of the information technology industry.

Most MCA institutes accept students having a mathematics background either in high school (11th and 12th standards), or during graduation.

The MCA entrance exams usually have questions based on higher mathematics (sometimes B.Sc. level) and reasoning.

The extremely competitive nature of the Entrance Tests necessitates a focused preparation supplemented by sustained practice over a long period of time and under competent guidance. One needs to be essentially good at higher mathematics, as most of the MCA Entrance Tests comprise Mathematics, Statistics, and a little knowledge about Computers.

By the looks of things, it's Masters by coursework, so our friend may never have done independent research.

Flo, I'm really looking forward to your article... errr articles... errrr book.... I just hope it doesn't turn into your life's work.

The (first) article is finished. I will re-read last time this evening. If I guess everything sounds good it would be great if anybody here could read it. Just to ensure that it doesn't contain too much language errors.

  • Well, nothing wrong with a Masters by course work, that was my MA as well. Trust me, though, there was plenty of research work involved outside of the classes.

I guess my concern then, based on Gail's research, is the school he attended. If the program is a regorous as it seems, why is he asking the types of questions we keep seeing?

I'll take a look at it, I'll PM you my email address.

Speaking of which, Gail, I had a couple of UBD moments with your article, but I did finish the review and testing the steps. Great job in my opinion, and I couldn't find anything that would require any changes technically. Now as an editor, not my forte, but looked good as well.

Not saying there is. It just may explain a bit about why he doesn't realise what a PhD requires if his masters was not by dissertation.

Now that is the question. It doesn't look like something you can sleep through.

  • Flo,

If you want a purely English grammar-type proofread, I'd be more than happy to give your article a review. Since I'm very new to SQL, the technical stuff would have to be looked over by someone else. But English grammar points and stuff, that I can do.

Also, if anyone else on The Thread wants a grammar review of their articles, I would be happy to provide that service.

I currently only have Word 2007 on my computer so a Word format would be best.

  • Flo, sounds like you have enough offers already to read your article, but you can PM me if you're looking for more.
