Stand up in the middle as if to make an announcement and commence the "fun"?

Nope. But have something in mind.

Panel cage match? Archery wars with the men that come?

Grant is front row in a kilt. They could have a a wonderful exhibition.

I'm glad we agree that it will be wonderful.

Please. For purposes of employment, some of us cannot comment on politics because no matter what side I argue for, I'll yack off a customer or six. Can we keep that stuff to a minimum on The Thread please? I'm already actively unfollowing people on twitter.

I try to avoid that here, I shall make a stronger effort after this request.

    So how 'bout them Broncos!

A century's worth of points in 2 weeks. Give up 500 in the air and win. They are rather dangerous this year.

While in Minnesota, we are thankful for a last second missed horse collar penalty allowing a win, and a bye week so we couldn't lose.

And yet another quarterback into the mix, just to stir things up a bit more.

500 passing yards? I think we might be able to top that, but that Win thing has me shaking my head.

I'm just glad the Packers started winning again. The Vikings added another QB? I missed that.

  • On the low-salary front, I worked as a DBA/programmer for a pretty well-off company as my first real programming job. My wage was a grand $12 an hour, but I got two raises during my two years there, so I finished at $14 an hour. The main reason for it was that the company didn't really know anything about programming, but they figured a programmer shouldn't be paid all that much since "they just sit at a computer all day". I got out there as fast as I could, but since it was my first job, I didn't have many choices in terms of employment.

Still, being paid that little was more than a little frustrating, along with all of the other problems there. Glad I'll never have to deal with that sort of thing again... Hopefully, anyhow!

Josh Freeman is the newest QB in Minn. I just need the Bears to start there winning ways again. At least I'm not a Texans fan 🙂

Well, there is a definition of "wonderful" as "unusual" or "of a sort that causes wonder", without the value judgment of the more common definition as "excellent; great; marvelous", and I suggest perhaps we use the term "wonderful" here in the first sense, as in, "I wonder why the convention center couldn't provide a table with a privacy panel for the dais?".

I was going to post the link to the dictionary.com entry for "wonderful", but the definitions there also use terms like "exciting" and "arousing", which I *definitely* prefer to avoid in this context.

I have a number of friends who are Bears fans. They get more upset that I don't react badly to Packers losses than they do when the Bears lose.

Unusual will probably be a good description.

    Bah.

They couldn't have gone easy on the poor Lions? After all, no Megatron kind of limited the Lions. Although they might've had better luck if Stafford faked handoffs to Bush, then ran like h*ll with the ball...

I actually had a recruiter contact me about a contract in NYC with a title of Data Architect that they wanted to pay 45/hr for.

That's actually lower than my hourly rate was, and I live in a 3rd world country with an exchange rate sitting around 10:1 to the USD...

Exactly my point. Some people are totally out of touch with what it takes to get good people in. I tend not to ask anyone their rate because it isn't any of my business unless I am hiring them, but I've been around where that conversation happens and I know no one who could accurately call themselves a Data Architect would accept anywhere near that. I suppose if the client was willing to cover all expenses, put you up in a 5 star hotel with your family, and get you tickets to anything you wanted in while in NYC you might consider it, but even then I doubt it.

It's weird and creepy, but the more they pay you, the more they will listen to what you have to say. If they're paying $45/hr, you have zero voice. If they're paying $300/hr and up, suddenly, the exact thing that the other guy was saying becomes pearls of wisdom. It's weird, but I've seen it in action at my last company.

Yup, I've seen that at every company I've worked for. An FTE can be saying something for 2 years and nothing happens, but when a high-priced consultant comes in and says the same thing it gets done. Not just in IT either. I've seen it in social services and manufacturing as well.

Speaking of "unbelievable", is THIS all that a Master's degree + the ability to walk on water is worth nowadays?

Ah, but that posting equates a Masters degree with no experience.

    Experience: N/A

Of course, it also says training is not available, so somebody had better have a clue.

Not a Broncos fan. But I am hoping to see that offense score big every week. 700pts in a season seems doable for them.

I doubt they can go 40 a week, but I think 35 is a good number to aim for. I think they ought to be able to get close to the 07 NE record of 589.

I think they will get the record. It would be cool to see 700. But I am skeptical about it.
