Ed,
Go to http://www.sqlsaturday.com and see if there is a way to register for event notifications. That way if one pops up near you again, you can see the notification before instead of after the event.

From my experience the best way to find out about new events is to speak at one π I get email notifications for every SQLSaturday.
Being on Twitter and LinkedIn (join the tech groups). I know I promote SQLSaturday's I organize on both.

Yeah, but there's got to be some way for interested people to get notifications if they've never attended or spoken at one.
If not, that's a flaw that needs to be fixed.

I heard there was one at Lawrence Technological University once. That would have been great, but I didn't hear about it until afterwards. There's nothing close in the near future.Granted, I wouldn't mind traveling to Milan, Italy and eating my way around the country. π
Ed, there was a SQL Saturday at LTU a couple months back (April, May? Something like that) I did get to this. There's also a (semi-)regular user group that meets at the MS offices over by LTU. These guys: http://semssug.sqlpass.org/[/url]
I'm going to tonights meeting, mostly because I saw Jeff Moden on the list of presenters...

If you register at the SQLSaturday site the registration asks you if you want to be notified about PASS events. I'm pretty sure this just means that you get the Connector and other PASS announcements, not just SQLSaturday events as your registration is really for PASS membership. The Connector does list upcoming SQLSaturday's along with other events.
It would be great if you could elect to be notified about events within a certain distance of your location. Because I really don't need to be emailed a notification about events in the Ukraine. If I think I want to go overseas to an event I can look on the web site, but I certainly don't want to miss out on opportunities to attend/speak at/volunteer at events in New England.
I'll try to remember to bring this up at the SQLSaturday Round Table meeting at the Summit next month. We can also mention it to Karla at SQLSaturday - Orlando this weekend.

How does one go about organizing a SQL Saturday?
Anybody up for joining one in Bangkok?
My thought question: Have you ever been told that your query runs too fast?
My advice:
INDEXing a poor-performing query is like putting sugar on cat food. Yeah, it probably tastes better but are you sure you want to eat it?
The path of least resistance can be a slippery slope. Take care that fixing your fixes of fixes doesn't snowball and end up costing you more than fixing the root cause would have in the first place.

I am seriously thinking of making DBCC Timewarp settings one of my own interview questions, just to see how far the SQL Conspiracy has spread. πWhat are 3 of the required parameters for DBCC Timewarp?
What are 7 of the optional parameters?
I like where this is headed.
Ah come now we all know that DBCC Timewarp has 137 required parameters and 256 optional parameters.
Didn't DBCC Timewarp get deprecated and removed from a previous version of SQL Server before it was released?
Fal.

I don't know the UK tax laws but if sufficient interest is generated and enough big names sign up, I'd hope Her Majesty's taxman would acquiesce.

I would coordinate through PASS. And contact Karla Landrum (@KarlaKay22 on Twitter). She's a SQL Evanglist with PASS and helps people set up SQL Saturday events.

"Describe the relativistic behavior of DBCC Timewarp when optional parameter @bigG is set to a value other than the default gravitational constant (6.674x10-11N(m/kg)2)."

You start here. Karla is really good at walking you through the first one. Then you ask questions in places like this because some of us have organized at least one.

What happened? Nothing new in here all weekend, and it's not even any sort of a holiday anywhere (that I'm aware of at least...)
Just think everyone!
Only 101 more shopping days until X-Mas!
