Just curious - how many like that new tile look on the home page?FWIW: I prefer the older images over these tiles.
I prefer the old ones overall, but especially right now. There was supposed to be a complete refresh of the home page look, but it was delayed. Things look off now, but I'll load a preview image for comments here soon.

I hate it. We went from some rich, classy looking icons to monochromatic junk. I'd really like to see them stop messing with the look and start working on the important stuff that's been missing from this site since the great migration several years ago.
Two things.
First, I'm not sure the old icons were class or rich. I thought they were pretty half assed, but it was what I got out of the old artist.
Second, the look and site changes are somewhat unrelated. We have designers that look to put together the design, images, etc. The movement of those items is almost not time consuming at all for developers. It has been stunning to me to see how quickly design changes can be implemented as opposed to architectural changes. The code changes are hard, require lots of testing, and eat developer time.
I've lost a developer (again) and so work has slowed. There are items on the list, but I've been time sliced to a small fraction of time as Simple Talk has been the priority for the last year.

I think it's pretty ugly and boring.
I agree. I threw up in my mouth when I saw the icon change to tiles today.
Your body seems to have a serious allergic reaction to change. π
Only change that represents selling out the Microsoft way. π
So I get this is probably in jest and partially true, but it's insulting. It's not selling out any more than Android using the same interface as the iPhone is. It's adopting a design that someone finds appealing. If you don't like it, that's fine, but we didn't pick this because of MS, but because of the design itself.
That being said, the icons shouldn't have been rolled out without site design changes.

I think we adapted, re-molded, stumbled, spilled some paint, and built a tunnel through which you follow.
We'll adapt more, and try to do it jointly.

Luckily we aren't eating MREs at ISAF HQ. But, unfortunately, not all is as good as it can be. Bacon, for instance, is wrong. It just isn't cooked right. I will probably eat my weight in bacon in the first week of my return whether for R & R or redeployment.

I actually like the new icons. I think they are easier to read and more clearly show what they represent. There are only 2 wonky things I see:
1. The image for the eBook listing is too different.
2. The Blog icon on the right column is not using the new format.
Other than those 2 minor things I think it's fine. At least in IE10.

Heh... I guess there's no use in responding to anymore "New Look" posts. As a very wise man once said, "It is what it is". π
Any chance of the Developers spending a little time fixing some of the things I mentioned on the "New Look" thread?
