Don't talk to me about time. Time is my business.Dixie, I could kiss you for this. @=)
By the way, does anybody else get this cartoon? Or do you have to be just the right age and just the right shade of geeky?
Actually, I do get it. The final panel is him doing exactly the opposite of what he was saying, keeping silent, because he never does talk about those things, and obsessing.
ACK!
I posted the wrong cartoon.
Take a stab at this one, Brandie.
Dr Who?
I don't know...oh wait, he is on third.
Sean got it !! 😀
I had not seen that one before but it is pretty darned funny!!! Thanks for sharing.
Just catching up with the last couple of days of the Thread. But this did make me laugh this morning. Although a Brit and not a follower of baseball I do know the Abbot & Costello sketch very well. Tuesday I was at a local SQL user group and someone said "Who's First", I replied "no What is on first, Who was on second!". Hope I remembered that right. Only a couple of people got the reference. Hence this made me almost laugh out loud in the office!
Rodders...
You got close, Rod, and we'll give you a pass since you're not American.
Here's the lineup:
1st base: Who
2nd base: What
3rd base: I Don't Know
Left field: Why
Center field: Because
Pitcher: Tomorrow
Catcher: Today
Shortstop: I Don't Give a Damn
I don't think they ever named a right fielder, for some reason.

One story I heard was that Abott was supposed to be the right fielder. Don't recall where I heard this though...

Cheers all. I remember trying to explain it to a collegue (younger than me) and ended up showing her a clip from youtube, about four "this isn't funny" to start with then giggles for the rest of the clip.

The enemy's gait is down.
Huh?
When did The Doctor get a sex change?
If your own gait is down, step it up, Jason. :hehe:
Three years from now ago. You can download the episodes with DBCC Timewarp
"The Curse of Fatal Death" had a scene where the doctor was female. It was a parody episode made in 1999, not intended to be part of the real timeline, but was done by BBC which makes it legitimate (more than just a fan created short) even though it isn't really uhh... "real".

In London next week for SQL Skills 3 DR/HA.
Then SQL Saturday in Dublin then a couple of the UK Relay events.
Should be fun, if a bit much on the travelling!

I think people have inferred that over the years from some of the set-ups Abbott and Costello used in the various contexts they performed this sketch. Sometimes, Lou talked about wanting to know the players so he could speak to them if he saw them on the street, clearly placing him in the role of a fan, while other times the bit started with Lou about to take a trip to New York when Bud mentions that he is going with Lou because he has been offered a job managing the Yankees. Bud offhandedly mentions that the players have funny names and Lou takes the bait.
Maybe the absence of a right fielder in the lineup is a nod to the common perception of right field as a "throwaway" position that's not very important to the defense, useful as a spot in the lineup for a player whose hitting is important to the team but whose defensive skills may be suspect. For example, the Red Sox started to put Babe Ruth in right field to get him in the lineup more often as his hitting became so outstanding, and the Yankees moved him from pitcher to full-time right fielder so he could be an everyday player. Ruth was a decent, but not outstanding, outfielder - his fielding percentages were generally in the middle of the pack - but his bat was worth so much it didn't matter.
