I know Brandie will like this, and perhaps others. My 14yr old asked if he could go to Comicon in Denver with his friends.

Now I'm thinking I might need to go as well πŸ˜‰

Hee. Just an FYI, though. The company that runs that Comicon aren't the same people that run the San Diego and New York versions.

    Is that an issue?

Hey guys, I need your help please. On Wednesday we're having a "bring the kids to work day" and I'm helping out. I've been asked to "train" the kids on my job. It's a small group of 8-12 year olds and I need 30-45 minutes worth of fun activities that give them an idea of what I do.

    Anyone have any thoughts?

I like the flowcharting idea. I might even link it with a small project using something like Scratch. Ask them to come up with a way to solve a simple problem, or even make a little game. Give them 15 min, then show them how it works in Scratch.

    Scratch?

  • Ah, Scratch - yes, that's it - I knew I saw something about teaching kids coding - it was a message from PluralSight and it was talking about teaching kids to program using "Scratch" and I was thinking I would check that out in my copious spare time. I love the idea of starting new geeks out young. πŸ™‚

Only if you're expecting the convention to be a huge one with lots of high-powered stars as guests. If you've never attended either of the coast cons, then it shouldn't be a big deal.

I find Comicon (only been to NYC, but SD is the same only moreso) to be overcrowded. Better to go to a smaller con to start. The Denver one may fit the bill. Check out their website and you should get a good idea of the con. Are there panels or just a dealer's room and signings? I've been to some comic "conventions" that are little more than a small dealer's room that you have to pay to get into. You'll want to avoid that kind.

Brandie: The Phoenix one draws a solid amount of star power too, so I'm not sure who runs ours. It's definately not a small event however. The crowds can... hm. Politely, they get on my nerves after a certain point.

Donna and Patrick: Welcome to the Water Cooler. Don't mind the goldfish, he just swims past and will take a treat if you offer it. The others have already stated a few of my own opinions so we'll let that lump of meat lie there marinating awhile. πŸ˜‰

Brandie2: Let me know how that flowcharting thing works out. We do the same thing here at my office and I've got... nothing. I also don't have kids so that probably works out.

And, hey all. Life's been crazy, trying to keep my hand in here as well. πŸ™‚

LOL, actually it was the closest I could get to a dust bunny (who lives on beer popsicles) for a while. Though, I've been feeling I needed a change of avatar. Excellent choice!

RBAR is pronounced "ree-bar" and is a "Modenism" for Row-By-Agonizing-Row.
First step towards the paradigm shift of writing Set Based code:
________Stop thinking about what you want to do to a ROW... think, instead, of what you want to do to a COLUMN.

Change is inevitable... Change for the better is not.

  • Frickin fracking g***amn locked down idiot nitwit domains!!!

Fracking place implemented / started enforcing a policy that prevents ANY accounts from having the "replace a process level token" privilege, thereby BREAKING ALL the Agent jobs that run DTS / SSIS packages on 3 different servers!

I can't re-add any accounts to the privilege because it's handled by the GPO, can't (quickly) get the policy modified, can't have the servers put in the "exception" group where I COULD add accounts...

I'm sorely tempted to find out who's behind creating these GPOs, and forwarding the PO'ed e-mails and calls to them...

    GRRR.

OK, thanks, just needed to vent on this...

Sounds like the Gods running AD need to test and see how Service Accounts and Delegation need to be folded in.

Or maybe a Proxy Account using Server Credentials could work.

Although that would be a nighmare to setup and maintain over time.

Suggest all SQL Servers run under Doamin Admin Credentials to minimize service distuptions.:w00t:

On a serious note, you should keep tabs on what the impact is.

You are not world class, but Worlds *SS when you do this with GPO's and no testing.
