Not sure how it will pan out yet. With a couple of good mates in the immediate area and a nearby pub boasting 180 different whiskies[/url], it's a tough choice πExcellent. It's settled then. I'm staying with you.
Sure you want to sample all of those whiskies the night before a presentation? :w00t:

All? Nah. Half maybe.:w00t:

Hotel booked for SQLBits. Almost forgot all about that so a nice refreshing 20 minute walk in the morning!I'm in Castle Marina Premier Inn, which according to Google maps is 2.6 miles away by car or a 45 minute walk π
I'm at the Hilton brand hotel somewhere nearby.

I'm not going to the Thursday, but will be getting to my hotel sometime in the afternoon.
I'm there for the whole of the Friday sessions and undecided about the Saturday sessions. I'll be going to the morning, because there are three talks in the 8:10-9:10 block that I want to see. Won't be making my decision on that until the day. Not sure about staying for the whole Saturday, but even if I do, I'm travelling back home Saturday so won't be sticking around.

I looked at the Hilton, it's about an extra mile further away and cost more to stay in it so I decided against it.

So I wanted to open a case and review, without paying, but don't know the process or link to follow. If you want to log a case with product support, you will have to pay for it. There are some cases where if it's a new bug they don't charge, but that's the exception. Basically, unless you have premier support or some free support cases from MSDN subscription, opening a case will cost.
See the Assisted Support Options on this page:
Hmm, I see...
So, if my Cluster is experiencing issue addressed by KB2718576. How can I be 100% sure that's the case? rely on myself? ... I mean, it was fully patched, SAN is an approved hardware and fully patched as well. I see no other explanation, based on what happened, but apply the hotfix.
I just want to make use of the rights I have as a legit software owner. MS products are not cheap and come with warranty.
Be sure you read the entire EULA. Also understand you don't really own the software but license it from Microsoft.

Am I the only person who gets 'I don't think that's true' replies to their posts from a certain person and am I the only one annoyed by it?
I can justify and explain just about anything I state here, but sometimes the time required to produce a detailed counter-claim is just too much.

Nope. I get just as annoyed by most of that individuals posts.

Be sure you read the entire EULA. Also understand you don't really own the software but license it from Microsoft.
Hmmm. Rules of first sale apply to software licenses too, so there is a sense in which you own the software. Also, unless the seller makes it clear before accepting payment that what is happening is a licensing operation he will fing that in European law he has sold what the customer thought he was buying. As for EULAs, the courts have made it clear that they will only apply if they are fully disclosed to the user before he makes any payment.
Of course none of this (except first sale doctrine) really matters, because MS can afford better lawyers than the average consumer can. And none of it applies to software professionals, who are assumed to be aware of the standard practises of their profession, including the usual terms of software licenses and the almost universal practise of licensing software, not selling it.
An unusual clause in an EULA might still run into trouble though, and in any case many EULAs contain clauses which are contrary to law in many countries in which the license is sold. Companies like MS are clever enough protect themselves from having EULAs found to be completely invalid because some clause is illegal in the relevant jurisdiction by having separation of issues clauses and disclaimers of applicability where the relevant jurisdiction forbids some restrictions of liability, but some other companies' EULAs that failed to do that have been thrown out in total in the courts.

Well, at least he hasn't come back after you debunked his nonsense about write-ahead logging. At least not yet.

Chris,
Arh um, well, no!
Richard was a little quick off the mark to put my name down. Just started a new role, haven't moved yet so staying up during the week so didn't have a chance to plan anything. Hopefully once I've moved and settled in I can give some thought to a couple of topics I had going round in my head.
I think Richard has stepped in and is going to present instead. I am planning on going though, to give Richard a chance to ridicule me!
