Am waiting with bated breath to see if "Saint" Lynn lives up to his kind and understanding reputation. Someone stumbled on an old QOD thread about calculating a person's age in which multiple alternative solutions were offered. Summary of last few posts (previous post was months ago):
NewGuy: With these data, I get wrong answers...
Some Helpful SSC Member: what are you using?
NewGuy: SQL Server 2012
Lynn: What I think you were asked is what formula you are using to compute age, not what version of SQL Server.
NewGuy: I am using your code of course.

Until now...running for sainthood, Jase? I'm dead curious to see why he couldn't figure out how ambiguous (and irritating) his post is.

Nope - not sainthood here.
Funny how that works (ambiguous questions).

Koen, I like your #SQLFamily icon in your signature. You ought to put it somewhere and tweet it so others can use it also.Actually, it's not mine. The SQL Server team themselves published them:
Show Off Your SQL Server Spirit With Community Badges
So they are already free to download and use. And there have been tweets about this ๐ ๐
(the only downside is that the #sql server 2012 fan is in such a small font, you'd have to make the button quite big to be readable)
Badges? We don't need no steenkin' badges.
(On the other hand.... let me check these out.)
I liked 'em!
My thought question: Have you ever been told that your query runs too fast?
My advice:
INDEXing a poor-performing query is like putting sugar on cat food. Yeah, it probably tastes better but are you sure you want to eat it?
The path of least resistance can be a slippery slope. Take care that fixing your fixes of fixes doesn't snowball and end up costing you more than fixing the root cause would have in the first place.
Need to UNPIVOT? Why not CROSS APPLY VALUES instead?
Since random numbers are too important to be left to chance, let's generate some!

I want badges here. Working to get the devs to implement them.
I want one!

Oh, definitel and indubitably BOTH are getting worse. Of course I've been raising the level of the answers recently, by being to busy to answer, but the rest of you (with some shining exceptions) are almost as good at lowering the level as I am.

Ah-HEM. I am BETTER at lowering the level than you are, Sir.
Wait. ... Did I really just admit to that?
Crap. There goes my BS score down the tubes.

Since apparently I don't have an idea about partitioning, can someone help this poor person? ๐

I gave it a shot, mostly trying to suggest a new direction.
I don't think I said "Gail is right" too often...
