Now taking bets on how long for the wifi at the SQL in the City event to be overwhelmed...

    πŸ˜€

You mean my brilliant plan to steal all the wifi in the city for myself has not yet worked?

    Darn!

So *YOU'RE* the reason the wifi packed it up after the first 15 minutes!

All joking aside, I did enjoy the SQL in the City event (disclaimer: I don't work for RedGate, Steve Jones didn't slip me a $50, $20, $10, $5, or $1) and picked up some tips. My only regret was that I didn't suggest to management that they also send a programmer along with me to it. There was certainly information that could be applied by the lowliest accidental DBA to the highest of MCMs.

OK, I do sound like I'm shilling for Redgate now. Maybe it's time to get dinner, I might be getting light-headed from lack of food...

Boss's Boss (in a funny "Southern" accent): It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood. Won't you be my friend?

  • Well, back to work...

Started sharing the wealth from what I picked up on Friday at the seminar(s) with the others in my department...

Now I'm starting to look at trying to get sent to the SQL Server Live in Orlando in December...

Am I being too greedy trying to get the bosses to send me to this stuff?

Not at all. I'd do it myself if I weren't a contractor. They need to remember that when they send you to improve your skills, they're investing in better results for their company.

My company (department finance guy) flat out refuses to send people to events like this. If you can get your company to pay for it, that's great!

All my life I was told by presentations in popular culture that broccoli and cauliflower were horrible. After being diagnosed with diabetes I gave them a try instead of the potatoes I'm not supposed to eat any more. They're delicious! Why have I been lied to all these years?!

Now you've done it. You had to go and turn The Thread political.

If you're going to be that way about it ... I can be political too.

Broccoli, the other green vegetable, wants your support to banish cake from the dessert aisle.

Kare Ott says "When Broccoli campaigned for healthier choices in the frozen food aisle, I was all for it. We need less sodium in our Healthy Choice entrees. But one day I walked into the store and found the heirloom tomatoes replaced by ordinary beefsteak tomatoes."

Bost OnPI commented "Broccoli acts like our friend, encouraged us to come to the healthy table, then he made it illegal for us to have our supersized sodas. We should have known what was coming."

Baby with Tofu Lollipop cries, "He betrayed us, stealing our candy and replacing it with bargain basement garden variety vegetables. I used to have a pretty sucker. Now see what I'm stuck with?"

Can YOU trust a vegetable that does such awful things to people? Vote NO to Broccoli this November.
