Hi folks, this evening I’m collecting Symba from here: http://www.tvaw.org.uk/Adoption.htm. We’ve met already, he’s awesome.
Not sure of the name though. Symba is a bit silly, it’s a misspelling of the lion king's name, Simba. So I’m calling him Ziggy.

I like Alfie. He's been a good cat for us. Well, at least his distant twin. Alfie eats breakfast and dinner at my place just about every day. He has been instrumental in the control of the gopher population in my yard.
And due to his service, we keep the dogs locked up during his meal time - just in case.

Cute cats. I currently live in an apartment, and don't want to deal with the pet deposit or pay pet rent so I will have to pass on adopting any animals for now.

Maybe there should be a college level course in "How to read error messages." A full semester class to teach people how to read and interpret error messages.

Aw, how cute. But I already have 5 cats so don't have the budget for more unless I can find some more SQL consulting gigs. 🙂
My thought question: Have you ever been told that your query runs too fast?
My advice:
INDEXing a poor-performing query is like putting sugar on cat food. Yeah, it probably tastes better but are you sure you want to eat it?
The path of least resistance can be a slippery slope. Take care that fixing your fixes of fixes doesn't snowball and end up costing you more than fixing the root cause would have in the first place.
Need to UNPIVOT? Why not CROSS APPLY VALUES instead?
Since random numbers are too important to be left to chance, let's generate some!

The quality of the hires will be roughly proportional to the quality of the interview questions.

Had the same problem until a couple of months ago, Lynn. Pet rent? Never heard of that over here.

It's not often I find anything to disagree with in what you say Dwain so this is an exception: I think your statement is a wishlist - how it should work. The reality is usually quite different.

It wouldn't be the first time that someone has accused me of being an idealist! 😛
I think I'm an idealist by nature but a pragmatist by experience. Sometimes my true nature gets the best of me.

Reminds me of a joke.
Do you know the difference between an optimist and a pessimist?
Experience. 😛
