Politics in the States tend to raise high emotions.

Shoot man! You should see the bloody (and I mean that literally) politics in Thailand!

My mantra: No loops! No CURSORs! No RBAR! Hoo-uh![/I]

My thought question: Have you ever been told that your query runs too fast?

    My advice:
INDEXing a poor-performing query is like putting sugar on cat food. Yeah, it probably tastes better but are you sure you want to eat it?
The path of least resistance can be a slippery slope. Take care that fixing your fixes of fixes doesn't snowball and end up costing you more than fixing the root cause would have in the first place.

Congrats on the work in publishing Brandie.

    Thanks.

Are you goign to be at SQLSaturday Orlando this year? As of today I'll be there.

Assuming that it doesn't conflict with a writer thing I already have planned, yes. (which was pretty much what happened with both Orlando and Jax this year). Is the speaker call up yet? There have been so many I might have missed it.

    Links are OK here.

Just an FYI, I had someone complain about the humor/political nature of the image. I don't think it's a big deal, but I also don't want to broadcast political images here.

Believe what you want, vote how you wish, but looking to limit the inflammatory nature of some images.

+1 - Totally agree with the limitations on inflammatory images.

Also, I wanted to share this which has been going around the writers groups of late. Pasting images in the Thread is copyright infringement unless the picture is in public domain or owned by the person doing the posting. We complain enough about people who do CI or plagiarism on our articles. So why do we engage in such behavior with other people's pictures?

This is my own post from one of the groups I'm in. Consider this fair warning. I can totally see Red Gate not wanting to get dinged for this behavior.

I wanted to share this with everyone, because the subject bears repeating for those who unknowingly engage in the practice of posting photos and such. I'm not sure where embedded videos lie in the spectrum of this issue, but everyone should take a look at this post and think about what they are posting on their blogs and websites.

    http://www.roniloren...l#disqus_thread

And here's a blog post I wrote about the subject some years back. Note: I am not a lawyer. I'm just passing on info that I learned from one.

-- Ignore this, bad joke that's not going to work as planned... I'm not going to get it wordy enough without copy/pasting a phone book or something...

I'm sure I can easily get quite a bit more verbose than a phone book...

Which leads to the existential debate of ... If your name isn't in the phone book, do you actually exist?

What happens if your name was in the phone book, but someone erased it (or worse - tore the page out)?

    Think about it...

  • This might start your day out with a chuckle.

    It sure made my day.

I had one of my users ask me to troubleshoot a query.

She said this one and several other ones had suddenly stopped working.

I got the query, and it had a date range prompt.

So I just ran it for a day, as her, and it worked fine.

When I asked what date range she was running it for, she replied '6/31/12' to '7/28/12'.

I just had to ask 'is there a new calendar out? Mine doesn't seem to have that date.'

She even had to laugh at her oversight.

Wish all my problems were so simple.

A friend of mine has been buying a local calendar for years. They always include 4/31 even though he's notified them about the error. The best part is that 5/1 still is listed on the correct day.

When is the last time anyone here actually used a physical phone book? I think it has to have been at least 10 years. I've been watching The Rockford Files recently, from the 70s, and it is fun seeing how many plot points depend on the phone book or how hard it is to get to a phone.

A phone book makes it much easier to find the Sarah Connor you're looking for in an area...

You ever try Googleing for Sarah Conner in {city name}?

    Sheesh...
