speaking of vacations, I just got back from Machu Picchu, Peru!

spent a week with my wife marching my fat butt up and down some mountains filled with some beautiful ruins.

Uh, that doesn't look like marching.

And people ask me why I don't post as much on SSC as I used to 🙁

Really unfortunate - I would love to see more from you here on SSC.

Paul - I would have to agree with this. You've made some excellent contributions in the past (that I have seen, being a relatively recent joiner) and it would be shameful to lose such a helpful and knowledgeable contributor just because a few non-sensical conflicts.

My mantra: No loops! No CURSORs! No RBAR! Hoo-uh![/I]

My thought question: Have you ever been told that your query runs too fast?

    My advice:
INDEXing a poor-performing query is like putting sugar on cat food. Yeah, it probably tastes better but are you sure you want to eat it?
The path of least resistance can be a slippery slope. Take care that fixing your fixes of fixes doesn't snowball and end up costing you more than fixing the root cause would have in the first place.

Another vote here. Few of your posts offer merely a solution, Paul. There's usually an eye-opening lagniappe or caveat for us to explore. Please don't give up.

Well, some of it certainly looks like a snake-oil salesman and his sock-puppets. But it seems pretty likely that anyone reading the whole discussion would cross the plugged product off their list of candidates for purchase, so it's not a very successful advertising effort (unlesss you believe that all publicity is good publicity, so acquiring a reputation even for over-puffed snake oil is good for sales).

A giant screwed-up attempt at advertising, perhaps?

Considering the date-stamps, I doubt it was a marketing campaign. More like someone posted some negative data, and a sales/marketing person from the company tried to make it look good, but others then, over time, posted mostly negative about it. Too much time between posts for it to be a campaign.

Possibly. I've seen a few talks on the product and some people seem to like it, but it's a bit of a paradigm shift for how you work.
