Are the posted questions getting worse?

  • By the way, the houses near the tech center sure are expensive - about $250,000 and up I think?

Wow, that's cheap by UK standards. Average house price here is around £226,000 - roughly $350,000. And that's with the market plummeting right now.

Same here. Building a new house can quickly go up to €350,000 (including land), which is about $432,740.

Next thing you know all those crazy Americans are going to complain about their gas prizes 😀

Wait a moment. We're supposed to get prizes when we get gas? Nobody told me that! I want my million dollar winning lottery ticket, darnit!

Buy it... Buy it... You know you want to.

Well, the US is huge and prices vary widely. Here in the Boston area, $350,000 is pretty cheap.

I'm thinking I saw an aricle that put the mid-May average house price at £186000 about a week ago. Can't remember whether it was anywhere reliable or not, though.

I moved to Boston from NE NJ and prices here are actually a little lower!

Agreed. Out here in the middle of nowhere we have low cost housing, nice people, easy to find great local produce. Even a nice local butcher shop (all grain fed beef, pork and chicken with no antibiotics), sometime you even see the live ones going in the back door when you pull up. Less competition in the tech job market so wages are very high in comparison to other industries. And the air is easily breathable and clear, even on the worst days. You just have to ignore the pickup trucks, tractors on the roads and a few other oddball things only seen out in the sticks.

See, I find less competition in the cities because there's more work and the wages tend to be higher too. I've never had a problem with air quality in Boston, there's great local produce, the usual mix of nice people to jerks, museums, sports, aquariums, tons of choice for where to shop, parks, trails, river and harbor kayaking, concerts & clubs, easy travel to all of NE and NY/NJ, mass transit, the airport & train stations are convenient and to top it all off, most of my friends live here.

I work in the city but live well outside. Being in Kansas City, getting outside of the city is a LOT shorter drive than it would be for you. I have all the above amenities (well no mass transit) and super cheap housing as a bonus. Then again you have fresh seafood which costs two arms and three legs around here. 😛
