    Woot!! :w00t::w00t:

  • Really?? OMG. Now we have someone that can't even do simple math.

{sniff} Man.... {sob}.... you guys are the best. I never had a volunteer for this before. {expression changes from whimpering to full blown evil grin with a sparkle in the eye as the first chop is loaded...} πŸ˜›

You have an evil grin, Craig is drooling, and I am left wondering what if it is plain or some kind of fancy seasoning.

  • Just an observation and a friendly reminder.

    /soapbox on

We are starting to lean too far to the arrogant side with many of our replies (and yes I am guilty myself sometimes). Things like links to google or lmgtfy and smart a$$ responses when it seems that sometimes it is a language barrier that prevents good communication. We don't want this awesome community to end like all the other cold, snarky and far less useful forums out there. We have a really cool and unique atmosphere on this forum and it seems like it is slipping into the dark side quite a bit lately.

  • Good point, Sean. I've will confess to being a really bad offender in the past. Nowadays, I post less, and then only if I can offer a helpful comment regarding the problem to be solved. If I see an OP behaving inappropriately, I just walk away.

However, I reserve and defend the right to continue "snarking" here in The Thread. πŸ˜€

Agree to both actually, and I am quite sure I am among the guilty. Sometimes, however, it seems justified. I do think that even when our replies start leaning to the arrogant side of things I will say that we still need to try and keep them professional. Sometimes people do need a slap upside head ala Special Agent Gibbs.

As for the occasional lmgtfy posts, sorry but some OPs deserve it when you look at their posting history. When they good get answers faster by using Google or Bing rather than posting here on SSC. Of course, we all could just ignore those posts, but I don't see that lasting long.

As for snarky here on The Thread, what is a good water cooler for?

  • One possible test is to imagine one's mother reading the post before hitting 'reply' and wondering if it would make her proud.

I'm not sure The Thread actually has any special status; it's just a thread like any other, and indexed by search engines just the same.

I agree that some people and some threads certainly deserve that type of response. I only made a comment because I have seen a trend in the last couple weeks of that type of thing happening a lot. I was not at all trying to point fingers as in doing so I would be forced to invoke the 5th. πŸ˜‰ Just bringing it up because I happened to notice it. Not like this is the first or the last time this will be brought up in here.

And of course this thread is immune. We need our place to vent, yell and scream about VOLDEMORT.

Maybe we can get Steve to add an exception so the spiders will ignore this one. πŸ˜›

Not trying to make my mom proud (God bless her). Heck you should have heard her at times.

Nope, The Thread has no special status except with those of us who congregate here. There may be those who think that there is nothing but 35,923+ posts of rants about bad questions and OPs. Of course those individuals probably have taken the months it may take to read every single post and would miss much of what has transpired here of the years (The Thread has been around over 3 years!).

Gail, without really digging into this, isn't this just an expensive NOP?

    Yup.

On the plus side, SQL's smart enough not to log the update.

Or maybe that's part of the minus side - if it wasted disc IO logging the non-update maybe people would notice something was wrong.

Although if they have things like that in their system, and haven't noticed any effect, maybe not.

I think he-who-is-without-clues has relatives all around the world working in various IT shops. πŸ˜›

Why is everybody so afraid to say his name?

    Just say it already: VOLDEMORT

No, VOLDEMORT was only missing one clue. He didn't realize what Harry really was. As long as Harry lived, he could not die.

He-who-is-without-clues doesn't even realize he is his biggest problem.

Thanks, I don't need to watch Deathly Hallows 1 or 2 now πŸ˜‰
