Who killed JR again?Personally, I scheduled my college classes around "Whose Line Is It Anyway?"
I didn't know JR was killed? I thought he was just shot. Plus, if he was killed, how couldhe be back in the new Dallas?

Nope, too much fun watching now. I can even answer his question on why he keeps getting the same value for @qtd on subsequent runs through the loop. I even told why on the the other thread. He just won't listen.
I'm curious as to how many more threads he may open and who else may step up and try to answer his questions?
Sadly, watching this collection of threads has turned into my equivalent of the lunchtime soap opera.
Except that I've never voluntarily watched a soap opera.
But it's a break from the current frustration of "Yes, if this application were configured in anything remotely resembling 'normal', what you want to do would be easy. In this case, however, I'm going to have to unbreak it to get you back to standard functionality. Let me go dig..."
Oh, no. You didn't watch Luke & Laura on General Hospital? I used to race home from high school for that one.
Ooh, you must be an OLD DBA as well as a ScaryDBA if you were in high school for Luke and Laura. I was in elementary school when that was going on.
I'll be beating you later.

Grant, you mentioned the other day that you'd finished the book "Temporary Duty" This one http://www.amazon.com/Temporary-Duty-ebook/dp/B00531CPHC/? Good? Recommended?
Looking for some good sci-fi again (space ships, interstellar travel, etc). Too much fantasy around.

I enjoyed it. A lot. The first third was better than the last two thirds. It's a first novel & you can tell, but it was still a very fun read.
Also, Lost Fleet is still going on even though the war with the Syndic is over. I just started that one too.
There's always Lt. Leary & the RCN. Pretty much just straight space opera, but still fun & well written. By David Drake.

Of course, the main characters were low ranking Squids, so I identified pretty quickly.

I just finished reading "Shadows In Flight", if you've ever read Orson Scott Card and like Bean better than Ender. Recommended.

Heh, you guys reminded me that I want to order up the final books in the Dresden series and finish that... 🙂

Intriguing... I loved Ender's game. Rest of that series, not so much

Oh, c'mon! Sentient Pig People and twinning yourself into your own children for the win!

Good. I'll pick it up next time I go book shopping.
Also, Lost Fleet is still going on even though the war with the Syndic is over. I just started that one too.
Ah! That reminds me, I have the 1st book of the Lost Fleet sitting on the secondary bookshelf (aka the dining room table)
Oh, and I said too much fantasy, but I've bought two books of this series and love them

Harry Dresden cross Merlin cross who knows what. He's an iron-age Celtic druid who lives in modern-day Arizona, consorts with the Morrigan and runs a new age book shop.

I enjoyed "Ender's Shadow" and the entire "Shadow" series. Primarily because Bean wasn't as saintly as Ender. I must confess, this off-earth story lacked all the political and military maneuvering of "Shadow of the Hegemon", "Shadow Puppets", etc.
On the other hand, "Ender in Exile" picks up right where "Ender's Game" leaves off. Due to the time-distortion games Card likes to play, it also picked up right where the last book in the "Shadow" series left off, with a young Ender encountering one of Bean's missing children. I liked it a lot too. Go figure.

Also (if you can find them anywhere) these are three of the best sci-fi novels I ever read by an author nobody has ever heard of.
I can't speak too highly of Daniel Keys Moran. In order:
Emerald Eyes
The Long Run
The Last Dancer
