Are the posted questions getting worse?

What would happen here on SSC if the TOP 25 posters did nothing but lurk for 24 hours?

I'm in the top 25 (usually in the top 10), and I'm not sure what you mean. I lurk on here all the time. Last time, my lurking lasted almost 10 minutes! (Personal record! Break out the champagne! Then figure out something to do with it, since I don't drink.)

Just what it says, lurk for 24 hours, no responding to any posts, no matter how egregious the question or responses (unless it could cause serious harm to companies data).

I mean, we can't get some people to even post simple DDL and sample data. What if no one answered their questions for a full day?

Now I've got "Office Space" playing as a double-bill with that. (It's an eclectic theatre in here.)

    What's next?

I'm thinking Office Space combined with the Letterman show, tossing stuff off roofs.

My wife has stepped in and said she'd fix the printer before I unfix it permanently.

Both printers here are acting up. One doesn't want to inject ink on the the paper. The other keeps sending offline messages to the computers.

Today is a day I am tempted to throw one of them off the roof.

Don't throw it off the roof.

Launch it with a pigeon launcher and shoot it.

    Repeat

Maybe Jeff can use it as a porkchop target???

    that would be good too.

I'm thinking maybe launching it, then shooting it with exploding tip bolts shot from the crossbow.

you are having way too much fun at my expense.

I'm getting very frustrated (and very saddened) by the (apparently) increasing number of people who seem to feel that writing T-SQL is about throwing code segments together at random apparently believing that some odd combination of clauses will work and not checking in the documentation to see what the syntax permits when their random combination of fragments of multiple commands doesn't work.

    Am I alone here?

So are you saying I've been doing wrong all these years?:-P

And here I was thinking someone had just let my code loose in the wild. In my defense, I wrote most of that crap when I was new. I swear.

Ignore the datestamp. 04112012 was a mistype. Honest.

Roof? No. Not nearly as fun as an Office Space style sledge hammer party.

Of course, and the fun must continue. Have you rebooted? 😉 Yes? Reboot again. That'll fix it.

Not only TSQL, but SSIS gets it's fair share.

Today I had to explain someone how to create a precedence constraint. You know, click on a box and drag the arrow to another box.

I've been sick the last few days so I know I'm a bit cranky, but even last week I found myself getting a bit frustrated with some of the feeling of entitlement, or even lack of listening/responding. I know I'm not a published author or anything like that so my name won't carry weight, but I'd expect responses and discussions based on the value of what I've offered. I'm not always right, either, but meh, I try.

However, I've found myself lurking more lately as I read through threads and decide that besides not wanting to waste my time, the patterns are already forming based on previous attempts to help other similar posters and I just don't want to bang my head on the wall, either. There's still good newbies/posters out there, but they're starting to get lost to me in the swell of ... welll... lazy entitled morons. I don't check most of the threads anymore, and anything marked "Urgent" gets an immediate pass if not created by someone I'm familiar with on the boards. I'll check some longer discussions not for the original poster but for the discussion that usually happens from others after, hoping to learn something new.

24 hours of lurking? BAH! I say a week. If you're going to make a point, make a point.

I think I'd have a problem going longer than 24 hours. I'd either fail to last or I'd just not come back after a week. It has taken my a bit to get back into the forums since coming back from the dark side. I'd like to stay active.

I know, I'll go 12 hours or so tomorrow without even looking at the forums. Should be easy since I'll be driving to Prescott, AZ tomorrow. Then again on Sunday when coming back. That will work, it's 24 hours, just not all at once.

There will be 2 weeks in May where I won't be here much, if at all.
