Okay a couple of semi-technical questions:What do you all run to backup your home systems?
I may need to buy a new laptop soon. I use it for work and presentations so I need something pretty powerful, but $1500 or less. What do you recommend?
You mean... I'm supposed to be backing those up too???
I have a 2TB Seagate drive. It comes with software to run scheduled backups, essentially is does an initial full b/u, and then deltas periodically as specified. Seems to work pretty good for my purposes.
Speaking of which, time for me to go buy a few more

Damnit, Jason, quit reading my mind! Didn't HR talk to you about that behavior yet?
(grumble... I was gonna say that...)

I'm suddenly unable to create an index on a table. The creation has been running nightly for over a year, but just stopped, it tries to run, but won't finish.
I've posted more complete details here
If anyone has ideas, I'd love to hear them.
Thanks

Does anyone have a link or script to prove that using the physical table order to determine the order of your results is bad?

Is the program manager of the query optimiser team sufficient of an authority?

You'd have to hope so, right? π

I just registered for the SQL Server Saturday in Waltham in May. At the end is the ubiquitous "captcha" to verify authenticity. The word it wanted me to type in to verify my authenticity? "fraudulently"

Reminds me of the captcha I got once that said: pillow trauma.

Oddly enough, that captcha came up when I was doing something at one of my writer association sites. We had a long, amusing conversation about what sorts of things constitutes pillow trauma.

Depends what you stuff the pillow with (and whether it's wet or dry and whether it's frozen or not and all sorts of other things - in fact it's a typical SQL Server question, the only right answer is "it depends").
