Are the posted questions getting worse?

Brick wall. And now I'm honouring promises and decisions that I didn't make. Wonderful.

    Ow. Sorry to hear.

I have multiple WordPress blogs (which I haven't updated in awhile). I just set up multiple instances and use each for a different topic. It was very easy.

Is "Multiple Instances" the keyword I should use when searching through the help files?

That might work. Multiple Blogs or Multiple Installations might work too. If you'd like, I can see how I have it set up when I get home. It was pretty easy if I remember correctly, you just have to set up a directory for each one and do an install into it.

    For example, I have

My SQL and other coding blog: http://sqlserver.thoughtstream.com/

    My Cooking blog: http://cooking.thoughtstream.com/

    My Comics blog: http://comics.thoughtstream.com/

    My Music blog: http://music.thoughtstream.com/

I have others, but I haven't really posted anything on them yet. Heck, I haven't posted anything about music on my music blog yet. I've been utterly swamped with other things recently, but I do mean to get back to them all.

Also, is that the kind of addressing you are looking for Jack?

    Who hosts your domain?

Arvixe. They're good, stable and inexpensive. Plus you can get either a Windows or non-windows based server and there isn't much of a difference in price.

I'm looking more to trying to find a way to have something like tabs at the top of the root domain. So if you could go to thoughtstream.com and specify one of the above to show at home and then have tabs to switch between.

Oh sure, that's just a matter of coding. Totally doable. I'm planning on putting links to my sites on http://www.thoughtstream.com, I just keep putting it off.

... the usergroup is not a registered entity and all of the leads would have to pay tax on any donations we receive because of certain tax structures here)

Tend to agree with Gus, but don't let the taxes necessarily be an issue. Budget for them, and pay the taxes out of the fundraising. Lots of the US events have an overage, and taking taxes out of that is not an issue.

    Two things.

    1) Anyone here besides me using Google+?

    2) WordPress gurus, I'm recreating my website with the WordPress content manager and wondering if I can separate my writing blog and my SQL blog and have links that point to both. How easy or hard do you think that would be?

    1. Not really. Haven't really liked the way it works.

    2. I have multiple blogs across different platforms. LiveWriter works well for cross publishing stuff. In terms of links, what do you mean by "point to both"?

Just don't want the hassle of trying to calc how much of the donation would have to be paid as tax (it would all be considered taxable income) and whether that would change my overall tax % and putting that aside for either this year Nov or next year Nov. More trouble than it's worth quite honestly.

What we did last year and are very likely to do again is ask for swag from the sponsors or (for the local ones) for them to pay for something specific. Worked quite well

Not quite the way it sounded. I'm thinking sidebar, where I have the SQL stuff grouped under one heading and the writing stuff grouped under another.

I'm still debating on what to have as the front page, because I don't want to turn off the people looking for my author page by having them find the SQL page first. And I don't want to turn off the SQL peeps by having the author page first. But I want my blog on the front page... Which means I'll have to choose one or the other.

Unless I do it by "most recent posts," in which case, I need something on top of the blog that says "to see just the author blog, click here. to see just the dba blog, click there." But that just sounds ... screwy.

Actually, a "filter posts by author/SQL" option at the top sounds fine to me.
