Are the posted questions getting worse?

I think we have some of the changes surfacing in the Recent Activity. We do create threads, and have wanted discussions for scripts, so this might be appearing.

I think it's OK, but welcome debate.

Well we have many forum topiics how about one for "Scripts", with sub entries for Scripts -2008, Scripts - 2012 .. etc., etc. as there is now for SQL Server 2008 - General

Just a wild idea ... but heck it might just generate a good discussion and a flood of ideas.

If everything seems to be going well, you have obviously overlooked something.

LOL - I'll concede. Sort of like trying to claim the idea behind the internet huh? 🙂

Hey! Stop making fun of me!

  • Paul is an incredibly sweet guy. It doesn't surprise me that he came up with this. IMHO, he's absolutely right. You'd be amazed at the number of panels I've gone to where the experts are excluded for various reasons. Including the ol' vicious cycle excuse of "well, she doesn't have enough panel experience."

I freely admit to being biased, though.

  • Interesting take on an issue. At least he's willing to put some effort in to make it happen. I've heard plenty of people talk about it, but not be willing to do anything about it.

  • Since many good sf authors have concentrated to a large extent on female characters (James H Schmitz, Andre Norton, Elizabeth Moon, David Weber just to name two big authors of each gender) and since there are plenty of excellent female f&sf authors as well as male ones, I'm inclined to agree that fan conventions should try to get rather more women onto their panels that they currently do - and not just on all-woman panels to looks at minor sidetrack, actually on the main panels (and not just as token members to appease feminists, either).

  • <snicker> Paul is going to get such a kick out of being behind a discussion on a technical board. Do y'all mind if I mention that his name got brought up here?

I felt it was very applicable to the PASS WIT efforts too, which is really why I posted it. "Be the change you wish to see in the world", aptly demonstrated. (now I feel bad, not trying to insinuate that Gandhi didn't demonstrate his own principles to the utmost, this isn't in the same league)

No, it's not the same league, but it very much is the same principal. How can we change things if we don't make room for that change.

Which leads back to the question, how do we get more women in roles of leadership or at things like SQL Saturday?

I know my own schedule this year is going to prevent me from attending the local SQL Saturday this year, much as I want to. And it prevented me from going to last year's Orlando SS. Aside from that, though, I'm a regular participant when I can be. Though I have to admit PASS's Rally & regular con rules for speakers are a little tough to meet when regular presentations at the local chapter and local SQL Saturday's are barely considered enough to qualify for getting into "the big leagues".

How do we fix the chicken & egg problem here?

Wait for the MSFT announcements next week. Steve Sinofsy already dropped hints on "... WOA software, all built from the ground up."
