Well, that explains a few things.

Humor for the day. I just gave a speech at our workplace communications club based on a blog post I did a while back. People found it entertaining and I actually convinced them of my point when I said Dave Barry has written blogs about the subject. I hope this lightens your day:

    I've got a rat terrier. Squirrels aren't a problem. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rat_terrier

Arm yourself against squirrelmaggedon! Adopt a rat terrier today! 🙂

So is SQUIRREL one syllable or two (most pronounce it SQUIRL)

Dealer: Umm, about that tiny oil leak....

    I hate days like this.

I've had that. It was followed by almost R10 000 repair bill for replacing the gaskets in the engine.

    Ouch!

My repair will be (not counting taxes) approximately 2,200.00 U.S. dollars. Not sure how that translates with the exchange rates to how much you paid.

    Yours is more.

Be grateful they found the cause now.

What I'm really grateful for is the fact that my SO bugged me to ask about it. I would never have remembered it if he hadn't.

I did have a car that threw a piston once. That was ... entertaining.

When I was 19 I had a Hyundai Excel, brand new. At 30,000 miles, I pulled into a station 'cause it was overheating in February in Boston. The mechanic opened the hood and was hit in the chest with a stream of hot oil shooting out of the engine. It turns out you have to change your oil every so often! I'd been told "check your oil regularly" and I did. I added some every so often, but never had it changed.

I had to replace the engine.

I had a 1990 Ford Festiva. It was a trooper, went 30,000 miles without an oil change once. First mechanical work (right front toe arm) at 101,000 miles. Car got totaled in an accident during a snow storm, 141,000+ miles on the car. Oh yea, it also got 50 mpg. Can't figure out why Automobile Manufactures are so proud of their 40 mpg cars now.

probably because they aren't Ford Festivas. My brother totaled one running into a stop sign to avoid a dog. I totaled another one when someone turned in front of me, when I was going 25 miles an hour.

Mopeds run well too, and get even better gas mileage...I'll still take a real car anyday.

There is code in the IF block, but I love stuff like this. I assumed the THREAD was safer than twitter.

One of the reasons some older economy cars got better mileage then new cars (and for a heck of a lot less money!) is because they could be sold without being weighted down with all manner of safety and pollution control equipment, indicator lights and computer sensors... all of which add extra weight and costs extra $$.

It also takes more gas to haul around more weight and it costs more money to pay the taxes on a car that is a lot more expensive, and costs more to fix if something breaks. The computer needed to diagnose the problem costs as much as your typical house.

    Maybe you can do this?

If we had ever met in person, you would not need to even ask 🙂

    Is that a "yes"?

BTW, they look kind of cool. Skis on your boots and the bike. I want to try it sometime.

I wish it were a "yes" ::smooooth:

It is something I would like to try, but with amazingly comprehensive personal insurance.

Bah, spoilsport. Go for the gold baby! No insurance and a Ford F-150 Engine strapped to your skis!

As long as that's the only thing strapped to the skis, that could be fun!

There are snowmobiles with V8 engines. Videos on YouTube.

    Now THAT would be fun!

I tend to like the snowblower powered by a 454 chevy.

Car after the Ford Festiva was a 1993 Honda Civic hatchback. It also got 50 mpg, and was only totaled twice, actually should have been totaled at 40,000 miles when rear-ended on the highway. My insurance company totaled it a year later when I hit a ditch at 70.

  • I got a Jetta, 149k miles and going strong. It ised to do 32 mpg on a highway, now it is down to 28.

  • 1994 Toyota Corolla station wagon, 300 mega-metres, solid as.

    Maybe that.

Or maybe "just give me the split function".
