For any Threadizens running SQL 2012, are you running it from a VM? Do you have any other versions of SQL installed at the same time? . . .
Yes, yes, and yes.

Not exactly the same but very similar, purpotedly from LinkedIn and also marked as spam. Sender's e-mail address was in raw IP format.

Thanks Paul, Revenant.
Paul, I was wondering if there would be one or two SSMS, due to the changes of it in 2012. Thanks for the info. Looks like I'll be going the side-by-side route pretty soon.

It's quite handy - after a reboot, I can use R2 SSMS for half an hour or so while 2012 SSMS starts up 😉

2012 on a VirtualBox VM for me and no issues. Is it throwing errors for you?
Also, I don't find 2012 SSMS to be slow at all, even in a VM. I must admit that my laptop is a very fast machine though.

Not sure what the issue is, but I've been having VMs (VirtualBox) just die on me. I asked here a while back, and no one else is having any problems.
I tried (operative word here is "tried") to run several memory testers on my laptop - two of them reboot the laptop after about a minute, a third shuts down after about 45-60 minutes. (All 3 are "supposed" to run and loop continuously.) I've tried swapping memory (put the chips into the opposite bank), running with just one chip in alternate banks, etc., so it appears to be an issue with the laptop, which is 3 yr old now.
So, what kind of laptop do you have?

Yup. I got one last week. It went to spam and I left it there because I didn't recognize the name at all. I have gotten some valid ones in the last week as well that have validated that this one was not real.

The same as Glenn Berry's:

Very strange, I don't have issues at all with my VMs. Did you have the same problems with CTP3?

My work laptop is a M6500, and it is really nice. Guess I know what my next laptop is going to be...
Yep, same problems with CTP3. I don't think the problem is with the VM itself, it just manifests itself when the VM is running (and using more than normal memory). I think the problem is actually in the (3 yr old HP) laptop, in the memory circuitry.

That must have been tough for you to admit, well done
I was exaggerating of course, it's fine in use, but can be noticeably slower than 2008 SSMS to start the very first time after a reboot. Aaron Bertrand has a big thing about it IIRC.
