@Gail: I am sorry if I said anything offensive. I believe I didn’t,Your insinuations about goals and motives were very insulting.
nope... I was shocked after reading this...
And? Your point is what? That nothing other than SSC matters? Matters to who? You? Steve? Users?
It was fair interpretation of the questions (not intension).

Heh... Wow! I'll turn 60 this year... perhaps "mold" is a fitting term for me. 😛

At the risk of being virtually lynched, I can see the use in underscores in table names and especially in constraint names.
I use them in constraint names; sometimes also to separate prefixes in table names (eg when I have a bunch of a couple of dozent tables concerned with music those table names might all begin begin Music_; but the also might have teh "_", it depends whether there's already an established convention that _ is used that way in this database); very rarley for anything else.
I shall now run away and hide before anyone finds the pork chop launcher.
I won't run away and hide, but I'm wearing my pork chop proof hat and box for the rest of today, just in case.

I couldn't care two hoots about counts, here or elsewhere. If I cared about counts I'd go and make pointless posts on every single thread here. Would get me a few hundred more a month probably and contribute nothing of any worth to anyone.
Points, counts, forum status, etc. Worthless.
I care that people with problems receive useful assistance and advice that isn't going to lead them to do something silly.
Perfectly said.

Well, Red Gate hired me despite my participation on The Thread. In fact, they hired me even though they actually knew me.Well you know what they say about 'mad dogs and Englishmen'... 😉
Nah, Red Gate's based in Cambridge, England where there's hardly ever any midday sun to go out in, so that saying has at most minimal relevance.
I suspect Grant's like me - only people who actually know him would hire him, and then only after they've known him long enough to get over the initial shock.

No porkchops to offer on the subject of underscores. I just think they're a PITA to type and, for me anyway, they actually make complex code a bit more difficult to read (which is probably exactly the opposite that others think).
They do have their uses and yeah, I do use them for index names (eg: IX_SomeTableName_SomeColumnName_SomeOtherColumnName), constraint names (eg: PK_SomeTableName), etc. I very rarely use them for column names although I've used them there for certain prefixes as well. I really don't like to see underscores being used as a replacment for title-casing where someone separates all upper or lower cased words with underscores.
Still, if you're really interested in seeing me raise hell and prop it up on pile of porkchops, let's talk about the position of commas, mathematical operators, and column aliases. 😀

You'll be surprised. When I visited there last year, I got sunburnt (which is really saying something, since I'm used to both sub-tropical heat and high altitude)

hardly ever <> never!
I lived fairly close to Cambridge from the mid 50s until 1963, and went there quite often )nearest decent book shop, nearest decent record shop, nearest decent musical instrunment and repairs and scores shop). I was in Cambridge quite a lot (work and social; a few times a month from late '67 to end of '71) and again quite a bit (but not as much as before) from late '96 to late '99, with rarer visits (couple of times a year) between '72 and '95 and from 2000 onwards. Don't remember being there since about 2004/2005, maybe it's got sunnier in the last 6 or 7 years, but when I knew it midday sun was rarer than in most places I knew (Manchester, England and an t-Oban, Scotland being the big exceptions).

@Remi: It’s pretty much insulting and I am ignoring you for a long time. I don’t think I have said anything insulting to anyone, especially you Remi. If Gail is hurt she can talk to me directly. I don’t think she needs any advocate especially YOU.
I stand 100% by what I said.
I know you intend to have fun and be part of the group and you are 100% welcomed here. And with the idea to have you here for a long time as a force of good you need(ed) to hear this.
What you said was a insult to 30 000+ hours of work by Gail (most of it free and helping 1+ million people directly), I can vividly imagine how she felt
And to a degree an insult to what all of us are trying to accomplish here both as induviduals and as a community.
There's no way in hell I'll stand by and let it happen.
I'm not saying you're a bad person, I'm saying this train of toughts need to change. That way we can all be happy together.
I know you can only grasp part of the message as of right now (took me 5 years).
Give it time and you'll understand it 100%.
