Lynn deserves some kind of award for his missionary work in Darkest Procedural Land during the Rant.

A few months back Jeff was soliciting feedback for a topic similar to "Why do we need this?" He was attempting to figure out why people kept asking for a specific type of code for an upcoming article he was writing. I've now been asked for a similar circumstance and I'm trying to refer to that post and/or the article it was background info for and can't find it.
It had to do with "sequencing" data in a certain way.
Anyone remember what that topic actually was? or have a link to it? This would have been a few months back, Nov/Dec timeframe perhaps?
Thanks,
-Luke.

I don't think he has finished the article, and I can't remember the topic of the thread. Question I'd ask here is "Did he ask it in a separate thread, or was it asked here in The Thread?
I recall his asking, just not where.

It was another thread, it was mid-late Jan. I remember because I was working on a very similar problem at the time.
Unfortunately, that's all I remember.

It was in a separate thread. And I thought the topic was something like "Why do people need this?" but I've had no luck searching for it.
I was toying with the idea of going through all of his topics, but it seems to limit me to the 150 most recent ones...
Perhaps I'm just not using the search features properly?

I'm not sure Jeff will get that one done, so someone else feel free to tackle it. He's agreed to start a nice T-SQL book for us all, so I'm sure that will keep him busy.

Here's one where the OP solved his own problem while forming his question.

And then there are those who really should not be giving advice. The code provided here wouldn't even pass a check in SSMS.
Are we really surprised?

And yes, I just posted a warning regarding my code and SQL Injection.

There are times I wish I could reach through the computer screen and beat some sense into people...
I don't know if anyone recalls, much earlier in this thread I posted a link showing a user on another forum that was totally clueless, employed as a DBA and using the other members of the forum to do their job.
Well, now they're certified, having used brain dumps to study, and they're boasting about it.
More work for MS's exam fraud people.... 😀
