Oh, it's not a thread. I didn't post on this. I just found it and put a dent in my desk the shape of my head.
Brandie?
Can't watch it at work. Will have to wait until later this evening. But I find myself wondering how much bad grammar and nightmare code I'll have to inflict on Steve after seeing it. @=)
You may want to inflict a fair bit. 🙂
I get a headache just thinking about it ! I'm sure that kid needed an ambulance...

Nah, he used the front portion of the crown. It's about the hardest portion of your body, he's fine. I've done that a few times myself, though not quite with the same... emphasis... 😎
Never stop learning, even if it hurts. Ego bruises are practically mandatory as you learn unless you've never risked enough to make a mistake.

There must be, and it is fairly evident after all he is a DBA for SQL SERVER isn't that evidence enough, that it did affect him ?

That would only be evidence if he became a MySQL, Firebird, NoSQL, PostGres, Informix or Oracle DBA.
We might grant a pass on if he were to become a Teradata DBA.;-)

Brrrr... Oracle.
I spent 4 hours yesterday setting up an Oracle client on the server so I could access that pile of manure with SSIS. You would think that one of the leading database vendors would have made it easy to install such a piece of basic software...
Luckily it's part of a migration plan to shut that pile of **** down. 🙂

Great. I haven't looked at that new feature yet.
Is it comparable with KEEP FIRST/LAST in Oracle?

Really?
And lose so much money on consulting? 😉
You're right Koen: i spent the weekend trying to set up Oracle to SQLServer replication and the only tricky part is making the crappy client work.
600 MB compressed, by the way. Needs 1 GB on the target machine.
SQL Server needs approximately the same disk space for the RDBMS...

Hi all,
In this thread, http://www.sqlservercentral.com/Forums/Topic1218884-391-2.aspx"> http://www.sqlservercentral.com/Forums/Topic1218884-391-2.aspx , Sean Lange provides a reference to an excellent set of articles on why to use set-based code instead of cursors, written by Barry Young.
The article(s) are very informative and quite humourous also (he uses the "50 Ways To Leave Your Lover" theme all through, as in "Just Put It In a Set Brett", "Learn To Use Where Claire" - but I digress).
He promised a "Part 3" to this series, but I don't see it in SSC.
I remember seeing Barry on this forum some time ago, but haven't seen him in a while. I'm sure that some of the threadizens are friends with him. Do you know if he ever did Part 3 of the series? ("There Must Be 15 Ways To Lose Your Cursors")
December 13, 2011 at 10:03 am
Barry had some medical issues that have kept him out of the loop. Don't know if anyone has had any offline contact? In any case, you can look up articles by author using the link to the left, here's a shortcut to his page[/url], doesn't look like Part 3 is out yet.
