Are the posted questions getting worse?

    ...

    What do you think?

    Money money money money.

Oh, I'm sorry, you were saying? 😀

Here in Europe there is enough work for IT people. Recently there was an article in the paper saying that there still are not enough IT people here for all the available jobs. SQL Server may be a bit different, as not every company uses it (what a shame), but then again, not everyone knows how to work with it. I still get contacted from time to time, so I'm not really worried.

Woman in IT on the other hand, that's a bit of a problem here. In my generation (<30), there are hardly any. In my university class, there was only one girl. Most woman in IT here are from older generations, so it doesn't really look good for the future. The problem lies mostly within the education system, where the IT course is really really boring and dry. Seriously, WordPerfect and TurboPascal?

I thought of writing the BI ones, but given how often I use SSAS or SSRS, it's not really worth it.

    It's also 1/3 SSIS 😀

The MCTS exam for BI is imo mostly administrator related, not really focused on how you use the products and what the best practices are.

Hmmm. When I click on the Forums link on the homepage, I get the maintenance page.

    However, the link http://www.sqlservercentral.com/forums - with a lower f - works.

The forums themselves obviously work (otherwise I wouldn't be posting here :-)).

Flushing the DNS didn't help. Strange strange...

I had that issue the other day, Ctrl+F5 fixed it 😀

I researched it first, just to make sure that was not a commando to kill my hard drive 😀

Thanks anyway, the link works now.

Hmmm. Although CTRL+F5 works, the links still gives the maintenance page. I still have to refresh it every time with CTRL+F5.

  • I recently moved to a new house and I took the opportunity to get me and my family digital television (it's fairly "new" in Belgium).

So now I have access to over more than 200 channels. Can you believe I still have the feeling that nothing is on? :ermm:

Yes. My experience of satellite TV is that to fill content for the multitudes of channels they air things in the following pattern: -

    (*) New show

(*) "New" show (entirely copied the format of an existing show) * 50

    (*) Repeats * 939

    (*) Sports * 10

Meaning that 1/1000th of the things on are actually new. Then of those, only a certain number will be worth watching. So all in all, at best 1 new show per day.

It's get even worse. There's a channel with relative new movies (Green Lantern and Hangover II for example). Then there's another channel that plays the same movies, but an hour later.

What's the use of that? With the out-of-the-box set-up (that are a lot of -) I can record two slots at the same time and watch a third. It's nearly impossible to miss a thing. (I even have a DVD recorder where I can record an additional analog channel).

What. The rude, misantropic, workshy so-called 'expert' junkie who gets it wrong 3 times and nearly kills his patient before saving them in on their deathbed.

Actually it does aounds like a the DBA's choice viewing :w00t:

I refuse to pay for the movie pack for that very reason. The movies pack costs an extra £16 a month in the UK, for 5 new channels. I'd rather just go to the cinema or wait until they trickle down to the movie channels that are included in the basic pack.

    --edit--

Hell, if my girlfriend didn't insist on having satellite TV then I wouldn't bother. I watch very little on TV, and what I do watch I have on DVD (such as House MD 😛 )

Exactly. I got the movie pack for free for a few months, but it's ridiculous.

I still prefer to go the video store to rent some DVD's. I like watching all the boxes and reading the summaries et cetera. Pretty old school I guess 🙂

Screw cable. The only reason I bother caring on occassion is when I actually want to hear CNN or watch an American Football or Hockey game instead of going to a bar.

    Hulu + Netflix ftw!

Hulu is almost useless anywhere outside the US (well, definitely in Europe). But I agree with the sentiment, I'd rather watch my DVDs (which I have ripped to a portable hard-drive then connected to my home-network so they can be watched from both of the TVs and all of the computers in the house).
