Are the posted questions getting worse?

  • Each candidate could submit a video, and they have a tweet and a short excerpt of why you should vote for them at the dbainspace.com site. You can click and read/watch them.

I expect there to be more videos over the next day or two.

  • Yeah, I so wanted to go... a shame. Ah well, time to review who made the cut.

Changing subject: Does anyone know one of the DBAinSpace finalists?

There's no name I recognize as one of the Threadizens....

No one from here. I know Tim and I recognise a couple others.

  • I also know Tim Ford and recognize one other name. Mark Johnson, believe (I don't have the site up now, but looked earlier.).

    ...

Would have been such a slam dunk of either of Jeff, Gail or I had been the single finalist from ssc! ๐Ÿ˜‰

I guess I know why neither Gail nor you were allowed to participate. But Jeff? I thought he'd be allowed...

I think any frequent SSC poster being among the finalists would have had a huge advantage...

Whoa! Gail wasn't allowed to participate because of the laws of South Africa

Not that there are any South African laws preventing such a competition. Just a small enough audience that it wasn't worth the cost of checking with legal people.

Really? Then why single you guys out?

We're not singled out, we're just not included.

The only valid countries are USA (except a few states), Canada (except Quebec), UK (except North Ireland) and Australia. (maybe one or two others too)

Oh. I misunderstood. I'm slow, but I get there (or get carried there, same thing).

Germany was supposed to be a valid country, too. Not that I see any german name on the final list though... but in theory we were not excluded initially.

Would be interesting to see some statistics (e.g. how many participated in total, % of "persons included",% of wrong/right answers, avg. "score"... stuff like that).

I referred to the official rules and nothing else. Hence my question regarding Jeff since I assume he's a U.S. citizen living in MI with no official association with Red Gate (therewith being qualified).

To be honest, I didn't enter... didn't even try to answer a single question. They wanted a "tweet" from outer space and I refuse to sign up. :-P:-D:hehe:

You are my brother from another mother, Jeff.

On the first occasion, I am buying.

That almost never happens. For legal reasons, most competitions that you find on the Internet are restricted to USA only. (also probably because they don't want to ship the prize to another continent :-))

Itโ€™s good in a way I can fool myself saying โ€˜I could have won it but didnโ€™t get the opportunityโ€™. :hehe:

  • If I recall correctly, one of the finalists wants to be in space because, as a six-year old he said such a thing and was laughed at by his teacher. I'm going to vote for him just for that. What kind of teacher would laugh at a six-year old's dream (at least to his face)?
