Are the posted questions getting worse?

Darn, I was submitting an article here and as soon as I uploaded an image, it removed all the previous text I entered. That was painful. Anyone else seen this behavior here?

    The SSC article editor?

    Don't. Get. Me. Started.

    Me. Either.

It's slightly better over the last month as we've revamped the control, but it's still slightly flaky. I back up everything before I paste anything in.

I don't think I've ever used the article editor.

Do you just send the word doc to steve?

Yes, but I don't know if he wants to encourage that.

I don't. It causes the workflow to get disrupted. I don't mind the few people that have been doing it for years, but please not anyone new. Worst case, upload the Word doc in the article editor and leave a note at the top of the text to use that.

Steve will rip my article into pieces for sure. I am not a writer. Therefore I expect to have problems with the Steve Editor as well. His comments are very good though. I like his reviewing process. Each time I learn a bit more about writing. πŸ™‚

Never worked with Tony Davis have you? Steve's positively gentle in comparison. I sent something to Tony yesterday and between him and Phil Factor I expect it to come back almost completely rewritten.

Tony is rough, a little too rough, IMHO. He edits traditionally to meet some form. I try to keep your voice, just make sure the flow and focus are there.

    In case y'all haven't seen this.. http://thedailywtf.com/Articles/The-Query-of-Despair.aspx...

I'm sure we've all had days like that...

I inherited a query like that back in 99. It was a 500 line query with lots of unions. I got it down to a 50 line query with no unions. It ran better too. πŸ™‚

I'm trying to make some time to go after a rather nasty trigger we've got here with a recursive CTE in the middle of it. Ugly, ugly, ugly. I'm still reverse-engineering the business logic, though - I'm not going to touch it until I actually understand what it's trying to accomplish. But it sits out there, taunting me, and keeps making it closer and closer to the top of the "must tackle now" list...

    Hi Ki

How about posting up the rCTE bit?

Chris, after that last mess I posted (in which I expertly demonstrated what happens when you get buried too deeply into the middle of a problem and forget to come up for air) you want to play with more? πŸ˜€

Once I figure out what it's trying to accomplish, if you really are that bored, I will, but I haven't started playing with it yet, so I can't build a postable version of it yet in my sandbox.

Too busy to get bored Ki, only three weeks left on this gig and tons to do - but I have a special interest in rCTE's.

We're waiting on an OR & date. He's on top of the list. He needs an open heart surgury to fix 5 different problems. That's 10 hours on the table with the heart stopped when everything goes according to plan.

Let's just say nobody's thrilled about that at the moment.

That sucks. Thoughts and prayers and hope things go smoothly.

Got another puzzle for you guys and possibly another bug (row_number, partition by & cte).

It was a known bug, confirmed by our own walking wiki from NZ.

For what comfort this may bring, four years ago I under went open heart surgery to replace portions of 3 viens, needless to say the surgery was successful. May your Dad's surgery be as successful as mine.

May God bless your Dad and watch over him and your family.

If everything seems to be going well, you have obviously overlooked something.
