Available now over there, but not over here. By the time it was shipped over I could probably get it over here now and that also requires some additional effort on my part. Two more days until publication over here, apparently. It feels like I ordered it months ago. Still picking bits out of the first book.
Ebook is instant download and AFAIK the link I gave you doesn't discriminate on location.
No no no no no - if it doesn't make the bookshelf bend then it isn't worth buying. I haven't yet moved to ebooks (unless it's a free pdf from Redgate or suchlike) because I still haven't found anything that I really like.
I still like the tactile element of reading a book too and can just flick through a technical book in idle moments, whereas with an electronic version I just can't be bothered. Now if I was travelling a lot for business then I'd change my mind, but I like the pile of books on my work desk and the seven packed bookcases at home - they're my friends.
My wife has another opinion of course, so I must be wrong.
Yep, you're wrong. π
I'm finding eBooks in the Kindle app on my Android table (double-check to make sure I hit all the necessary buzzwords there) are very, very convenient.
Just the fact that I can look up a word by touching it on the screen is useful in a lot of contexts.
Lack of bookmarks/dog-ears is nice.
And, with a case for the tablet, I can prop the thing up on the table next to my dinner plate, and read hands-free, thus avoiding ketchup-on-book syndrome.
It's not a huge improvement over paperbacks, et al, but it's a nice one.
Does have the disadvantage that prolonged periods without access to charging the battery means I can't read the book. Haven't run into that one yet, but it is a theoretical possibility.

I haven't yet moved to ebooks (unless it's a free pdf from Redgate or suchlike) because I still haven't found anything that I really like. The point we're trying to make is that Manning (Deep Dives 2) is not ebook or paper book. It's ebook AND paper book.
For $59.99 you get the paper book (sent to you slowly) and the ebook to start reading immediately. If you buy the book off Amazon you're paying the same and you can only get the ebook after the paper book arrives (there's a code inside)
Oh, I didn't notice that. Thank you very much for pointing that out.
I still have time to cancel my Amazon order...
That's what they told me anyway, I bought my copies in person, so worth checking with Manning first.

Kindle/iBooks/PerfectReader on iPad here. I still love my paper books, but I've got lots loaded onto the iPad. Much easier to read on the move. Kindle on phone is great for those 5-10 minute waits for take-away, queues, etc.

So you co-write the book and you still have to pay for it?

I was in a meeting today where we were talking about bug tracking, and I just have to share. Here is how it went:
Boss (to group): Have you guys been putting your bugs in Visual Studio?
Me: Yeah - that's where they usually put their bugs.
Ok, so he was referencing Work Items in Team Explorer, but that wasn't what he said, and it was way too good to let pass. π
Thanks,
Chad

Thanks Jason.
Like I said in my blog[/url], I only submitted the winning entry... SQL Server 2012 is the winner here (or maybe all the folks that will be using it and these features). Check out my blog, and the code from the other submissions to see why.

Got my new smart phone. Setting up my tethering connection now. Thanks for all the help.A nice pair of ski socks will prevent abrasion of the ankle :hehe:
I know where you post, Sir. (@Thwack!)
@=)
Ouch!! - but it was worth it π
Which phone did you settle for, Brandie?
Please don't say IPhone
Funny, the few Android users I know are mostly women. iPhone is split pretty evenly between the sexes and Blackberry users only use it because the company provides the phone and gets to choose.
Droid Bionic here. I have an iPad2 - and I just don't like it all that much.
I just got the DROID Bionic a few weeks ago after my Blackberry fell apart.
So far I like it but still have a lot to learn.

I've been meaning to post this.
I was in the supermarket the other day and I found that Old Spice is making a deoderant for SQL Server people.
