Are the posted questions getting worse?

Well, I found Gail's book at the PASS Bookstore, but they won't let me buy it. 🙁

Some wild story about the bookstore not opening for another 15 minutes. What a load of cursors.

Chad, that is one neat idea you have of meeting all the Threadizens at the PASS Summit and having them sign your book. Classy!

  • It was really an honor being there when our very own leader of the anti-rbar alliance, Jeff Moden, was awarded the Exceptional DBA of the Year award. He was also presented with his very own rbar... or rather reebar.

However, I must report to you that the other Threadizens that were present failed... we should have launched pork chops during his speech, but alas we didn't.

I'm very fortunate to know Jeff, and I'm honored to consider him a friend. He has taught, and continues to teach all of us many things. And not just high-performance SQL. Thank you Jeff for all that you have done for so long to spread your knowledge. I can't think of anyone else more deserving of this award.

Launching pork chops during his speech just makes me imagine an audience full of DBAs throwing porkchops and shouting "this man has no cursors!" at not-quite random points during a video of the presentation, immediately followed by an extemporaneous group performance of the DBCC TimeWarp.

I just want to know who's going to dress up as the dust bunnies.

I had the good fortune to meet Jeff, at the speakers dinner for a SQL Sat event in the Cleveland area and I second your statement.

If everything seems to be going well, you have obviously overlooked something.

Here's something fun for those of us unlucky enough to not be at PASS.

I won't complain anymore about my problems with customs when I was going to Disney from Canada last month 😉

Grant started and I am scared of heckling him... He looks scary.

He's not scary! If worse comes to worse, buy him a beer after and all will be fine.

Dang, what I good idea. I should have brought them some brews to start the day off! 🙂

They were truly awesome. I loved how their synergy flowed between them... you wouldn't believe that they had not practiced this precon together.

Forgot to mention... The best part of their session was after it... Little Jes Schultz Borland (@grrl_geek) tackled Grant. Gail was about to jump in and save him.

  • FYI: SQL Server code-named "Denali" will be released in the first half of 2012, and will be named... SQLServer 2012.

    Coming. Apache Hadoop-based distribution.

  • Today I am taking it easy. I did not go for the Marketing talk of MS regarding SQL server 2012. I had a great time yesterday and day before. It was great to see Santa get his exceptional DBA Award.

Did I anybody mention that he gave a great speech? 🙂

I am hoping to meet him for some of the nice taps from the Tap House. 🙂

You guys are awesome! It's a real pleasure to have met and to know both of you. Thank you for the very kind and generous thoughts and thank both of you for your contributions to the SQL IQ level of the world through posts and presentations of your own!

  • C'mon guys, get back from the Summit!

Heh... "Santa"... now, considering the belly I've grown over the years, it's going to be difficult to live that one down. 😛

I have to go to the "Exhibitor Reception" tonight in Exhibit Hall 4A. Not sure when those particular festivies end but I'd love to meet at the Tap House afterwards. I'll send you a PM with my cell phone number, Roy.

Thanks for the comment on the speech... I can talk in front of a crowd on T-SQL for hours with the greatest of ease but it's difficult for me to talk about myself. The speech last night was one of the toughest things I've ever had to prepare for.

  • I just saw Gail threatening one of the poor SQL Pass organizers. 🙂 Just kidding. I think she wanted help with her Lap top power since she has only 220 V.

I am waiting outside since I am expecting some phone calls from the office. They want to change the Cl index on a replicated DB. It is all n-Hybernate crap that comes through to the replicated DB. 😀

    n-Hybernate sucks 😉
