Are the posted questions getting worse?

Yes I have been rude. I've also apologized, edit and excused myself many times.

Not something Joe's been doing AFAIK.

Also while far from perfect, I don't think I have over 50-75% of my posts who could be perceived by the receiver as offensive or rude.

Just playing a bit of catch up. Remi, if Joe gets nailed, so do I. He's a snarky ***, but I've done some incredibly rude personal attacks... and I don't apologize for them when I finally get to that point. So while he's a consistent PITA, I'm afraid the pot cannot support the banning of the kettle.

Besides, really, what would be the point? Would you rather watch him take those pieces somewhere we *can't* respond, with all the bits and pieces about no temp tables and 1 page coding? We both know that's fine for juniors but once you start doing heavy lifting that's not going to go well.

So, for a different topic... Go Jets!

When you finally get to that point, sure. He starts that way and frequently doesn't check back.

And yeah, that was a hell of a game.

  • Woohoo. Attended my first SQL Saturday and spoke there as well. Was as nervous as <fill in your favorite joke here>, since the topic they accepted wasn't my strongest suit, but I did ok and they decided to let me keep the "I'm a speaker" shirt after all. They put me in the largest room, but it didn't fill up and there were a few friendly faces in the audience. The event went great, except Jason wasn't there to harass :-P.

One of the regrets from having to cancel this last weekend. But family takes precedence. Will be missing Summit this year as well - similar reasons.

Drat. Well, your priorities are lined up right and I respect that. Another day, another time.

Glad to hear you jumped into the pool. I had my first speaking engagement since the spring this past Saturday as I spoke at the Vermont Code Camp. Speaking at a Code Camp is scarier than a SQLSaturday because all the attendees are developers:crazy:

Cool! This was a combo - Code Camp was on the 2nd floor and SQL Saturday was on the 3rd floor. I asked at the beginning and only had SQL people in my session, but they planned it so people could go back and forth.

I hope nothing serious is happening in your family. I had to make the same choice about the Summit last year. I don't regret it.

Nothing serious. I feel it more important to support my son at Region and State X-country championship meets.

If you think that my reply was not called for, I can delete my post.

Well, actually I can't, but I can ask Steve to do it for me.

If you also feel that I should apologize, feel free to say it out loud. I hate being wrong, so, please give me a chance to correct my attitude if you think I should.

ATM, I have no reason to believe so.

I don't think you should remove the post, or apologise. It wasn't the best post ever, but it was actually less bad than many that others (including both Celko and myself) have perpetrated; it was more the reaction of others too it as if it was the perfect response to the man (which, in some other threads where he's been, it could have been) that made me jump in.

Well, I'm glad that post got deleted.

We all should put our efforts towards something different from personal attacks or bad replies. After all, those who don't behave professionally do harm themselves in the first place.

Great to hear. I know your son will remember that you were there and will cherish the memory. My oldest brother ran x-country in HS and my Dad had to work all the time during his meets. My brother 30+ yrs later still talks about finishing a meet and seeing my dad there to watch and how great that made him feel.

Now can we get you up to Cleveland for our next SQL Sat - tentative sometime in Feb.

If everything seems to be going well, you have obviously overlooked something.
