Are the posted questions getting worse?

  • Anyone interested in helping someone out architecting a nasty little schema design in Access, can you give this fellow a hand here: http://www.sqlservercentral.com/Forums/Topic1160273-373-1.aspx

Seems like a nice enough fellow, but what he's looking to do I fear is WAY over his head. I tried to get him in the right direction but I haven't used Access in an age so there's no way I'm going to be able to walk him through it.

Just finished an article on Change tracking. I would love to have it reviewed by some of you. Anyone would like to take a peek at it?

PS : Just 99 posts to hit the big mile stone of 3000 posts. I never though I would come anywhere close to it. 🙂

If you want me to, I'll be happy to read it over.

Phew. Man, life is passing me by.

Just had our first Austin UG meeting at a new time yesterday. This is the city's 2nd meeting night each month to service the other half of the city (traffic is bad here). Slow startup. There were 9 there total; including me. T'was fun though. It'll take a few months for the word to get out. http://sqlwatchmen.com/blogs/jim/index.php/2011/08/user-group-meeting-location-picked/

Nothing wrong with a small group especially if it is a second location in the metro area. The key is are you reaching new people or the same people coming to a new location. We started a second group on Orlando (south side) in January and we went from 15-20 at one group to 35-40 combined. Neither group is large, but we are reaching more people now, which is the goal.

Flying to Dallas in the morning for the rest of the week to be on-site with a new client (yey). Now, if I could only get some sleep.....

As my friend K. Brian Kelley would say, "Sleep is for mortals"

Also, one of my larger DBA clients is doing a massive conversion from a dreaded SQL7 install (325GB DB) to a totally new vendor app, SQL2008, all new Crystal Reports, etc. A 2 year effort and the conversion finally began late in July. Wall-To-Wall meetings and activities to ensure everything is converted successfully. Man, what a huge amount of time this is. It'll be great to kick SQL7 to the curb after all these years though. Buh-bye!

Always good to move forward. That's a big change though, especially since you can't do a direct 7 to 2008 upgrade. I'd be interested in hearing how you managed this conversion.

Jim, this upgrade might make for a good article. I know that there are still lots of SQL 7 / 2000 instances running out there.

That sounds like a lot of fun. I have done plenty of 2000 to 2008 upgrades. Even did 7 to 2005 and a 6.5 to 2000 back in the day.

Cases like this, I think it would make sense to get the DBs to at least 2000 compat and then go from there.
