Partial to Fat Tire here in CO for beer.
Enjoy bringing Fat Bastard Chardonnay (Australian) to dinner parties just for the label. It's good to drink as well

Well, the beer festival was much fun (although my head would disagree this morning). I partook in Ale Caesar, Mad March Bear, Black Dog, Dark Brains among others, but missed out on the Pressed Rat and Warthog as it had run out.
One that made me chuckle was Black Mass (6.66% ABV!)
I now have to concentrate on taking photos of the other half as he takes part in the helicopter flying lesson I got him for his birthday - I fear blurry photos...

On the rant, I was surprised that it turned around. Usually someone with that attitude will stick to their guns or degenerate rather than start to concede things.
(Sorry for the delay, too tired to write last night).

There's an ale in there for everybody - look at this one, brewed specifically for RBY:
Dog-th Vader 5.1%
Bitter
"Come over to the dark side". A well-balanced
beer with a hop, fruit and malt flavours and a dry
bitter aftertaste finish.

Vaguely serious, non-beer question.
I just kidded Lynn about chastising someone for hijacking "the rant", because it had already been briefly hijacked by a discussion of incrementing next rowID values. But I have been guilty of hijacking in the past. I was trying to think of a good way to spawn a new thread and bring along the text of the old one, so that the original thread could stay focused and eventually wear out. The best way I can think of to do this is to start a new thread with a huge quote section as the first entry, then post a link to it in the original.
Of course, this type of thing might have prevented the origination of The Thread itself, and....
AIEEEEEEEE !!!!

I understand. π But without reading through the posts again, wasn't it the OP who actually brought up the NextID idea? So, if the OP moved the discussion in that direction, is it really a hijack? :w00t:

I don't know if it can be a hijack, but I do think that, in the majority of cases, anytime the discussion changes subjects then it should be a new thread. If the original subject is "How do I find a users permissions" and that gets answered and someone, even the OP then asks "How do I change permissions" it should be a new thread.

I prefer to let them evolve organically. But I also like really rambling conversations that wander all over the place. I just think that's fun.

I do agree with you Gus, I think that is why The Thread is probably still alive. This one has been very entertaining and has allowed many of us on The Thread to get to know each other in ways we might not have unless we had actually worked together.
Regarding the The Rant, it easily could evolve into The Son fo Thread.
Some of the discussion there should be in a separate thread.

I agree with you Lynn, especially as far as getting to know each other. I got to meet Bob in person. partially because of this thread.

I came out on the better end of the deal, Alvin. Thanks for the coffee cup. π
By the way, Alvin should be congratulated on the first meeting of the PASS Memphis Chapter. It was very well run, and had an excellent speaker. (In honor of the occasion, I kept quiet.) All of us who commuted up from Oxford were glad we made the trip.
edited to correct a typo... "occasion" is my spelling nemesis

I should mention that I also got to meet Steve Jones last week at the Colorado Springs SQL Server Users Group meeting. He was down doing a presentation. It was nice to have had the opportunity to finally him as well.
Steve, your presentation was well done, and you should start seeing me blogging soon.
Thank you!
