Can you just use Google Documents from the iPad?
There an offline version of that? (Internet access? What's that?)
Do they support Word's review/comment features? Word's tables, formatting, etc? Can I take a Word doc using a specific template, open in Google docs, save and lose none of the formatting?
They do have tables, comments, similar formatting to word. I don't know about the uploading the Word doc, but I'll check.
As far as an offline version, I'm not sure, but I'll try to find out.

If I want to work away from my desktop then, depending one what I'm likely to be doing, I'll pack iPad or laptop. iPad for writing, reading, annotating pdfs, laptop for anything more demanding.I looked at an iPAD and decided to stick to the laptop.
I like the iPad, very glad I got one. Much easier to cart around than laptop, much better battery life. I find it far easier to read electronic stuff (eBooks, PDFs) on iPad than on laptop or desktop screen

Interesting rant here: http://www.insanit.net/technology/smartphone-rants-3-what-do-i-want-a-real-windows-smartphone-when-do-i-want-it-now/Anyone else see the need/value here? I'm struggling to see if this is something that has value.
Give me a phone with 8GB RAM, 600GB hard drive (or, preferably, SSD), WIndows 7, 4 core 2.8GHz 64 bit CPU, that will fit in my shirt pocket,so that I don't have to lug a great big heavy laptop about with me; and then I wil be very happy.
If mobile phone vendors (particularly Apple) had not pretended that mobile phones have useful computing capability, or are decent general purpose computers, maybe I wouldn't have come to desire decent shirt pocket computing. But the y didn't stop, the continue to lie to us, and I have acquired that desire.

The things that I see missing are:
Keyboard/Mouse (bluetooth?)
Connect to external displays (support for at least 2 - one for me to see, another for presenting at conferences, etc.)
Need ability to install SQL Server, PowerPoint and VMs.
Needs to work with those presentation mice/laser pointer devices also.
Now that would be sweet... walk into a presentation, connect your phone to the display/mouse/keyboard, and start presenting.

There's nothing to replace Word's review features anywhere. Need a PC for that, or a Mac/Fusions.
I am tempted to get a real keyboard for writing on the iPad, that or give the Asus Transformer that Grant was carrying recently. That was pretty cool, with a battery in teh keyboard.

So, are there any pastries or donuts at the water cooler today? I am in desperate need of sugar.
I have hot cross buns. And I'm not sharing.

Gosh... has anyone ever heard of a good reason to have two identically named SQL Server instances in the same Domain? My gut says there isn't one and except (possibly) for the very brief period of bringing a new system online, it should never be done. Could someone that knows for sure (I just don't know and would actually like to know the answer for the future) respond to the following thread with either a "yay" or "nay" reason? The link takes you to my very sincere but totally unqualified response...http://www.sqlservercentral.com/Forums/FindPost1150874.aspx
Thanks folks.
Done.
Thanks, Remi... and everyone else who responded.

I think you guys have covered it out there, but I can't imagine instance names being a problem if server names are different. If two servers in the domain have the same name, you are probably f***ked regardless of instance names, unless you have some very magical DNS configuration (and having that would probably be a deplorable mistake).
Perfect answer, Tom. I knew knew the server name and instance name are two different animals and just didn't say it correctly. None the less, you've certainly confirmed what I believed... you're pretty much screwed if you have identical server names on the same Domain.

I'm working on a PIT restore script demo and those messages are a little annoying and ad no (very little) value.
I haven't done a deep dive on it (against Thread Law :-P) but it looks VERY promising, Remi.

Heh... yeah... that's what I want... something else to take away from "downtime" and something else that I have to make sure has some decent anti-virus software on it. π

Ok... now I'm feeling like quite the moron and I'm totally embarrassed for having missed it. Please forgive my oversight. I was certainly impressed and very touched ("overwhelmed by the thought" would be more accurate) by the fact that someone would take the time to "doctor" up a poster in such a fine fashion for me, but I didn't think of actually clicking on it. After doing so, I've found a new definition for the word "overwhelmed."
Gianluca, thank you for the wonderful gift. Mere words cannot express my gratitude for having had the opportunity to know and work with you.

Major kudos to the Win 7 developers. Replaced the motherboard, processor and memory of my desktop and when I switched it on, windows booted straight to the desktop, no errors, no repair, no problems at all.
This thing flies. I have a 3D rendering tool running at the moment and it's having no impact at all.
In other news... Anyone willing to read over an article on recovery models and make sure I haven't made any grievous errors?
