What I know of chaos theory leads me to disbelieve the concept of "Temporal Inertia", although conversely it leads me to believe more strongly in Santa Clause.

Suprise me it would not. Strong is the Dark Side. The Emperor it seems he still may be.
(Sorry, had to go back to the metaphor that works! 😛 )

'course it did take 3 movies to turn Vader from the Dark Side, so I suppose you can't expect it to happen overnight.-Luke.
It only took six to turn him from a semi-spoiled, annoying brat into a dead good-guy, with much of the transformation being spent in the "teen angst raised to melodrama poorly" stage. Though I do have to admit, all of that might be worth it for a chance at Natalie Portman....

Patience. Most of us have too much pride to swallow it all at once.
And if we try, much of it will just come back up shortly. 😛

That sounds like the best we could expect.
foxjazz (3/19/2009)
I have had extensive experience with set based queries in the past, and currently. Having experience with sql server since 1995, table locking and such things and multi-user server is not new to me at all. Although sometimes I struggle with certain concepts that I have infrequently used, (sub queries) for one. I have rarely had the need to use them.
His experience seems only to have extended as far doing simple queries, inserts and updates, probably from C# applications. I suspect he hasn't written many views, procedures, triggers, etc if he hasn't need to use subqueries! I rarely write a query that doesn't have a subquery! 😀
Reading the brief descriptions of parts of foxjazz's system, it sounds like it was incompletely specified at the start and has 'evolved' (like a lot of systems do!). Some features have obviously been proposed but not properly thought out, then signed off and hence had to be implemented in inefficient ways ("'cos that's what the CEO/MD/Chairman wants!"). An example is the use of 'bands' for part numbers which depend on the source; much better to assign the part numbers completely sequentially and add a source prefix.
Anyway, while I'm willing to offer some 'keyhole' fixes, I don't want to argue over a redesign of someone else's system (especially as they aren't paying me!), so I'm going to sit down on the sidelines for now and watch how long the 'Rant' goes on.
