There's someone you all know that deserves your vote here[/url].I'm sure you know who I'm talking about. 😉
I know I already said it once but I have to say it again. Thanks for posting this, Gianluca. It's not often someone gets the proverbial "15 minutes of fame" with a good number of their friends in full sight.

Wow Jeff must make a nice santa in real life too, not just on ssc! :w00t:
Heh... thanks, Remi. And just like Santa, I live a couple miles North of Canada. 😀

In that page, Jeff is the only finalist who's not smiling. That picture must have been taken right after he found a cursor in production code and it must have been cropped to hide the pork-chop launcher! 😛
Just kidding, Jeff! Don't take offence!
If there's someone who deserves to be called "Exceptional", it's you.
I could never take offense to one of my favorite jokes, especially from someone like you. Thanks for the kind words, Gianluca.
BTW... you can't imagine how close you are to being accurate about the picture... I had to spend the weekend writing code to get around some poorly formed XML that a 3rd party had put into one of their tables with almost 3 million rows. The average width of each XML was around 40K bytes with a max of about 2.5 MB 😀

Oh, he's smiling. You just can't see it behind that mustache and beard.
BWAA-HAAA!!! That's something else Santa and I have in common. I haven't actually seen my face since I was young. It felt like I was smiling but I can't actually confirm it. 😛 I did just fire a couple of practice rounds from the ol' Pork Chop launcher so it must have been a smile.:hehe:

Oh, now that's funny! If you look carefully at that link, the only 3 star rating I've ever gotten (so far, knock on wood) is the little editorial that I wrote where I asked the question "What's in your CLR?". The discussion turned out to be absolutely awesome. Some folks really came out with some very, very good ideas for and actual usage of CLR's they had deployed. R. Barry Young (where is that man, lately? I miss him!) had some really good uses that he'd built.
Heh... "Da Seriouz 1?" 😀

Steve Jones - SSC Editor (7/19/2011)
congrats, Mr Moden!
Ahhhh... my ol' friend and literary mentor. It is you that I must truly thank. Your encouragement, sage words, and light-handed guidance have been a great inspiration to me. You're also one of the Founding Fathers and current beacon of the best web-site, technical or otherwise, in the world. Where else could some of us have had such an opportunity to learn, write, teach, and serve all while having fun with the good folks, incredible friends, and fellow professionals that we've all had the opportunity to make the acquaintance of over the years?
I don’t know where I’d be without you and the good people on this fine forum, but I know it wouldn’t be where I’m at now. You, Sir, have provided me with opportunities that I’m absolutely sure would not have occurred had it not been for influence and guidance.
Thank you, Mr. Jones!

When is a table not a table?Maybe I'm breaking the rules, talking technical on the thread: but Jason asked a technical question, so I've written a technical answer.
Maybe it was rhetorical?
I make rhetorical posts all the time and am pleasantly delighted with the response. 😎

I was just coming over to post a comment about someone we know and (at least pretend to) respect that was in need of some support. Come on guys, let's get Jeff to the Summit.
I had no idea that there was a pass to the Summit that went along with this. Is that really true? I knew it would be announced at the Summit but had no idea that there might be an admission ticket in it, as well. If that's true and if I'm fortunate enough to win, I guess I'll be buying a plane ticket.
Oh my... I just had a thought. If I'm lucky enough to win, you guys are going to make "Santa" where a Red shirt, aren't ya? Maybe I should let the beard and hair grow starting now, just in case. 😛

Having had the pleasure of meeting Jeff Moden, at the speakers / volunteers dinner prior to SQL Sat #60 (Cleveland), let me tell you Jeff is not only an exceptional DBA, he is an exceptional individual and deserves the acolade and recognition.
Gosh, Ron... that's awfully nice of you to say. I wish I had at least half the worldly experience that you do. It was a real pleasure to finally get to meet you after years of “knowing” you. Thank you for being my “personal guide” during the event. I couldn’t have felt more at ease or more at home.
And thanks for all the help with testing for the “Tally Oh!” article. I’m going to need some help on another one coming up… you game?

Should be no surprise who I voted for as Exceptional DBA. I have learned a lot about SQL Server from Jeff, things I don't think I would have figured out on my own. He has been a mentor and friend. Hopefully one day I will get to meet him in person.
Man! We've known each other for a long time! BWAA-HAAA!!! Remember "Bankers Rounding"? 😛 Not just one 300+ post thread, but TWO! A lot of water has passed under both our keels since then.
Shifting gears, I have to admit that I was worried about you. I thought we truly lost you to "the dark side" with Oracle. 😀 Very happy that "Saint Lynn" is back. 🙂

Added another vote. Congrats, Jeff! You deserve the nomination.
Thanks, Jan! I have to admit that I never thought I'd get the overwhelming amount of kind words that I've gotten since the folks at work nominated me. Even if I don't win the award, I've won more than I could have ever hoped for. Thanks for being here.

BWAA-HAAA!!! Not yet, you haven't... I'm not shaving my mask for anyone. 😛
Thanks for being a good friend and fellow professional over the years, Jason.
