Lynn's saintly patience is well-known. I'm betting on a long shot, for once. It seems to be paying off. But until he starts posting up his own code, or at least takes the pop quiz, you may notice I haven't posted up any more solutions for him. 😉
He's gotten two or three questions answered, tops. You'd do that without blinking for anyone who asked nicely. Even if we haven't taught him SQL, we've at least begun to teach him manners.
Hey Jeff, can I send you an email about something?

Just wanted to pass this on to those who may be interested, looks like foxjazz may be more a Vader type than an Emperor type. We may finally be making some progress on his T-SQL Rant.
Hey, WTF Yoda!?! That was just uncalled for! Do I go around calling every semi-coherent runt with a skin problem "a real Yoda"? It's called "respect" dude.
😀
(edit: guess I should have put the 😀 in the first time.)

Jack Corbett (3/18/2009)I have to ask though, have you read all 2700+ posts?
I'm up to around page 30, and I have found it particularly entertaining, especially where you guys post links and say 'look what this guy did'. It has made me think, "wow, I probably did that too at some point or other". However, on the Belutions forum, Jeff let me have it pretty good one time for posting crappily formated code, and not posting sample data, so I came here at least knowing how to do that.
Actually, now that you mention it, you should probably skip pages 78 through 84 because, uh ... well you just should.

Or lightsabers. Lightsabers work really well. Dangerous? Maybe, but no one's ever complained to me. 😎

Sorry, no disrespect was meant by it. Was actually looking at the differences between the movie characters. Remember, Vader in the Return of the Jedi turned from the Dark Side, the Emperor didn't.
I promise, I won't use that metaphor again.

Hey Lynn, why are you quoting me? I think the man in the helmet is the one who requires the apology before the energy blades start swinging. 😉

I think there is an intermittant problem with the quote button. Sometimes you get the quote you meant (like this time) and others you get the previous quote. I noticed that several times during the day. I must have missed it this last time.
Think there is a problem with the site I do.

Yep. There's only one mug who keeps posting solutions. 😀
regarding the pop quiz, although he hasn't answered it, he did try posting an INSERT...SELECT, so he is thinking in the right way (even though his attempt would fail!).

That's true, Derek, and I should probably give him half-credit for that.
Sergiy, I'm going to reply here to something that you said over in the "Rant" thread.
Guys, I'm impressed with your performance, but you are displaying best techniques in SQL to a guy who cannot get "WHY THE HECK SQL???"
That thread started out as a no apologies rant, by someone talking like an ignorant a**. There is an old Zen story about being unable to teach someone whose cup is already full. Fox had his cup emptied for him quite thoroughly. We took pity on him when we realized he wasn't even knowledgeable enough to comprehend that.
He's now apologized to Lynn and admitted publicly he knows nothing. Now he is ready to learn. Sure there is a world of stuff that he doesn't even suspect about SQL yet. But my own personal objective is just to wean him off cursors, so he can begin that process. As we say down here, "I didn't take him to raise."
I also get not wanting to cast pearls before swine. The problem is, I'm a pig too. These best techniques get displayed all the time in other threads if anyone wants to browse them to steal code. I've been doing that for over a year now, and am a lot better at SQL for the effort. I may have even picked up a couple of pearls you dropped.
The difference between me and Fox was humility, but I'm older and he may never have read Ecclesiastes.
Anyway, in my opinion, that thread will wind down soon. I have no intention of seeing it turn into "Son of Thread". Fox will either see the light or he wont. We'll tell him to start asking specific questions in separate threads, and ask Steve to shut it down. Hopefully, we'll have him trained to set up his problems according to the best practices. Then he'll either persevere or he'll fade.
