Are the posted questions getting worse?

Top month posting for the Ninja is 1717.

Wow, not sure I've ever posted that much.

Top month for The Thread :

I can't wrap put my head around the fact that I single handedly beat that figure alone, while having a job and actually providing value (no offense to the water cooler principle).

Makes you wonder what I could do if I truly touch-typed and were an MCM and could do this 12-14 hours / day for 31 days straight

Not too sure about that. I've always been interested in triathlon / ironman. That could be an excellent mental training. 🙂 Of course I'd need like 2 years to get all the certs to begin with :-P.

    That's 10,000 posts, done.

    Wait, now it's 10,001.

Way to go, Grant! As many have said, thank you for the time you've spent teaching the rest of us. I've also read your two books on execution plans and, again I say, thanks for the time you've spent teaching the rest of us.

  • The regular and half day session lists for PASS came out today. I didn't make the cut this time. I'll probably have to turn down the "alternate" that I did make. The really bad part about that is I'm going to miss Gail, again, not to mention a whole bunch of other folks from SSC that I've been craving to meet!

The good part is, that takes some pressure off me. I can concentrate on a couple of SQL Saturdays and maybe get back to the book that Tony has been after me to finish. It might all actually be a blessing in disguise. 😀

Brandie, it is the perfect place for a vacation. 🙂

Steve, I will expecting you for sure. Trey, there is lots of time to save money for the trip. That is why I announced it more than 6 months in advance. 🙂

I can't make the trip but if you can entertain the idea of a remote session, I'd be happy to submit an abstract for consideration.

Unfortunate. Did you submit to the developer track?

That question you have is still on my list. I just haven't gotten to it yet.

  • I had loads of fun on the bus coming into work this morning.

I got onto a somewhat crowded bus and got a seat nice to a pretty young girl and facing a couple of older people. Then out of the corner of my eye I spotted some movement. I looked down and saw an 8cm (3 inch) spider crawling on my elbow. I stretched my arm out and twisted it around to try and determine which sort it was and what my options were to get it off. With all my fidgeting the attractive girl beside me looked over at me. “Excuse me,” I said. “Please don’t mind my spider.”

She shuffled further away from me, which girls tend to do even when I don’t have a spider, while I watched the thing crawl down my arm. Then I realised that it might work to my advantage if it just crawled off. So I leant over into the aisle and put my hand down near the floor so I could shake it off. At that moment the lady across the aisle from me let out an almighty screech. Now, if you’ve seen the old Tom and Jerry cartoons you will have seen many scenes where the housewife is screaming whilst standing on a chair. This is precisely what she did, leaping onto the bus seat all hunched over as the roof isn’t high enough for people to stand upright, and pressed firmly against the emergency window. Fortunately the emergency window wasn’t the pop-out sort or she would have gone right out the side of the bus.

The result was that the entire bus was looking at me with this gigantic spider on my hand. The spider decides the floor isn’t its stop and runs back up my arm. I attempt to flick it off with my other hand and all that happens is that the people in the ‘flick zone’ lurch backwards while the spider sails out...and hauls itself back to my arm with its belay. It then runs even faster the rest of the way up my arm and I see it disappearing out of sight behind the collar of my jacket.

So I start undressing. As luck would have it the spider is dislodged by my satchel and ends on the top of my seat, where it stares directly at me waving 4 legs in my direction. It finally ran off onto the young girls seat, who was by now practically sitting in the lap of an old guy. The last I saw the spider it was disappearing under her seat. No doubt someone else will sit there later today and have as much fun as I did.

    Steve.

  • All that and my question is "What kind of spider?"

  • Ahhhhhh, I had a spider encounter too while driving to work this morning (much smaller, but still just as surprising).

I saw it suddenly dangling about half / inch away from my face right between the eyes. I swear it was like she was trying to hypnotize me or something.

I was still 10% asleep BEFORE I saw it. Now for some reason I feel clear-headed!

I'm shocked that I didn't have at least 1000 posts, but at least I'm still in the top 10. 😛

    +1 :smooooth:

  • Jeff, I am surprised that your session did not make the cut. I was looking forward to meeting you again. Darn.. Dont the MVPs get a special discount or something that you can come? This sucks. I know that Paul, Grant, Steve and Gail got their session approved. But I am not sure about Wayne.

I am glad that I did not submit any sessions. This year I volunteered for the program committee and I am doing abstract editing and all kinds of stuff. If your session is not accepted, there is no chance that mine will. I was planning to submit one next year, but now I am not sure.
