Are the posted questions getting worse?

It would also be interesting to see the post that has the most previous quotes in it. This one I think has 7 so far... I bet there's some out there that go a lot farther.

If we continue to go much above 4 quotes, I might remove that function. It does make it rather difficult for these old eyes to read.

  • For the record, I never do

    SELECT *

    It's always

    SELECT top 10 *

    😉

  • For the Record, here is that listing.

Especially if we keep replying to the "Thread". lol

Has anyone ever broken up the points by post to the "Thread"?

Nope but with 27K posts some people might go back a couple ranks!

    Easily.

When I ask Steve to get me a breakdown of posts for MVP feedback, I ask him to exclude this entire forum. It's not a small difference...

Ok @steve-2, we need to see the new numbers...!

I think the post/point counts should just exclude The Thread by default.

How does that MVP feedback work? Is it like the exceptionnal DBA where you have to raise your hand to get on the list on candidates?

For some, yes they nominate themselves. For others, it is a true nomination by peers. Those nominated are reviewed by MS and eventually contacted if MS needs/wants to pursue more info about that candidate.

For me I get a mail from my Lead each year (around April) with a spreadsheet attached that I have to fill in. Covers blog, articles, presentations, books, forums and a tonne more.

  • MVPs require a nomination. I guess you could nominate yourself, but typically it comes from someone else.

MVPs have the easiest route to nominate others, but no idea if that carries any more weight. If they consider your nomination, you'll be contacted to provide details of what you've done for the community.

  • I've nominated a couple of people from this list and, as far as I know, nothing has come of it. I must write bad recommendation letters.

It's "Brandie," Grant. Not "Eidnarb." Remember that.

  • Congrats Grant on hitting the 10K mark. Thanks for posting. I learn a lot from you and others like you.

Regarding MVP, you can ask me. I am experienced. 🙂 I nominated some people from SSC. So far one got the nod. But I needed help from lots of heavy weights in the end to get the MVP status for that person. For the other two, I have no clue what the status is. Once you submit (Nominate someone) then you are not part of it anymore. They will ignore you. You will get one email stating that the name has been forwarded to the MVP program lead for the region. That's it.

If you plan to nominate someone, make sure you do a bit of research of that person so that when you nominate you can give the basic details regarding them. Steve helped me out in my case.

The award is based on what the person does, not pressure from lots of people. It's not a popularity contest.

Which is actually the way it should be.

It could be true. After the nomination I waited a very long time (nearly a year) and then I blogged about the whole thing. Lots of other MVPs promised that they will help get the MVP status. Three months after the Blog was posted, the MVP status was given. I am not sure what I should take from that.

  • Possibly that at the time you made the nomination the person didn't make the grade. MVPs can nominate, can say that someone should be considered, but that's it.

  • Our user group is planning to have a SQL Saturday in our tiny island. We are aiming for 25th of February, 2012. It is the week after the Carnival. Start making plans everyone. 🙂
