If I passed, could I add "Thread Certified" to my resume` ?

I like that. It sounds impressive.

Haven't been on here in awhile, and haven't even tried to catch up yet. I've been packing and cleaning the last 2 weeks and tomorrow is the big day when the movers come and start taking our stuff up to NH. We'll be leaving shortly after the truck leaves and be arriving in NH on Friday.

I actually start work next Monday on a 6 month contract in Concord, NH. I'll be doing T-SQL performance tuning mostly. They have a 3rd-party app that isn't scaling and need the SP's re-written to improve performance. I'll likely be making some indexing recommendation's as well. They do have a production DBA, that, while they haven't mentioned working with him, I'm planning on getting to know him and working with him. The application is a port from Oracle, so I'm betting there will be some quick fixes I can apply to take advantage of SQL Server's architectural differences.

I'll be travelling the rest of the week so probably won't be online much for a couple of weeks as I'll need to get internet service to my rent.

Looking forward to seeing my New England friends this summer. Hope to get to Grant's UG sometime and get him and others up to the Seacoast SQL User Group in NH (yes you Stefan!)

First Tuesday of the month at 6:15. Web site is http://seacoastsql.sqlpass.org. I don't think there will be a July meeting, but there needs to be an August meeting, even if I have to speak.

    Have a good move!

    When does the group meet?

  • Wow, only took about 40 minutes to catch up on the Thread.

Thanks for the congratulations. I'm looking forward to the new opportunities and challenges. I have a feeling I'll have some questions for the experts here on SSC.

I like the weather in FL, but my wife doesn't, hence the return to the northeast US. I'll miss the SQL community in FL as it is very active and has lots of great people. It just seems more active then New England.

Sorry to hear that SNESSUG is dying out. I think it takes someone with good marketing skills to really build up a group. That's something that Karla Landrum is really good at, OPASS grew almost immediately after she moved down from Pensacola.

Who's up for a SQLRally in New England in 2013? Time to start planning is now.

Ha-ha-ha! Let's get through SQL Saturday in 2012 first. No way we're going to beat this year in terms of quality of venue.

C'mon, that was nice weather in Pensacola.

Or at least I thought so. Kendall wasn't so thrilled. She decided Baton Rouge was out.

My daughter was not thrilled with FL last weekend. Too hot for her. My wife canceled a trip to Baton Rouge with me for the same reason.

I however, like the hot weather.

Where in FL? Different parts have significantly different weather.

    Aren't the different parts

    Hot and Muggy

    Hot and Sticky

    Hot, Sticky and Muggy

    Hot with Hurricanes

    and Swimming (while hot)?

    😀

Yeah, the venue this year was fantastic, it lived up to the extremely high quality of the speakers.

If the breeze was going, it wasn't so bad. Otherwise, just too hot and humid for my tastes.

  • @Craig -- Did you know that Brian Knight will be teaching a 3 day SSAS training class here in Phoenix June 21-23? I just found out by randomly clicking on the training link here on SSC. I wish I knew about it sooner unfortunately our fiscal year is ending and the training dollars have all been spent. It's only $299, I may fork out the money anyways. I'm a little weak on SSAS, we're a business objects shop.

Brian is a phenomenal teacher. He packs a lot of information in those three days, so be prepared to take a lot of notes and ask a lot of questions. You will learn and $299 is well worth the price of admission (unless you already know it all).

Mmmm.... Hmmmm... That is worth investigating. However, that's smack in the middle of my work-week, and my current projects are refusing to settle down. I can always learn more (I haven't even had to boot up a cube in 2 years) and that's a reasonable price for 3 days of training, I just don't know if I can get out of the office for 3 days. Will get back to you if I can make it.

Never stop learning, even if it hurts. Ego bruises are practically mandatory as you learn unless you've never risked enough to make a mistake.

Nevermind, it's a lab-structured course, expecting you to own both a laptop and at least a developer edition. As I currently own neither I wouldn't be able to scrape the two of them together in time. Yes developer is cheap but it needs to be delivered as well. As to why I don't own a laptop, the world is lucky I own a phone. I don't need a larger ball and chain.

  • Craig, Trey and any others out in AZ... you'll okay with all those fires going on? (I know it's not that close to you'll, but smoke travels and causes issues with some...)

I'm fine. My allergies are all-fired up but I don't think that's smoke related.

Wildfires in Arizona is like Rain in Seattle. It just happens. We've got some of the best firefighting crews out there handling the problem and I've never actually seen it concern any significant area of people, just some of the out-of-the-way communites which were built into the forests, so the closest thing to a firebreak in their areas is their pool.

Most of the desert won't burn, though the brush fires can get a little zany. It's mostly up through the mountain/forest regions. If you see a tree in a picture that's over 6 feet high and ISN'T a palm, I'm safe. 😉

Trey lives up in one of those mountain areas though, if memory serves, but the fires are in the east this year, over the local mountain passes, so he should be alright.
