WHOOT! Congrats, Gail. (I'm assuming this is a good thing).
Also, congrats to Lynn on the grandchild.

I'm not much of a runner. Uh, at all. But with all of this peer pressure, I'll give in. Before heading to the office, I'll run around our block (sloooowly) which is 1.1 miles.
Steve - I know it's only a mile, but this is a huge sacrifice for someone so far out of shape and in the TX heat! <whimpering, kicking and screaming, then realizing that I am a grown adult who needs exercise>.

Man, don't kill yourself. I think walking a mile would also count.

Me neither. I'll get the barbell out tonight in support (I really hate running)

Would walking from office to the parking lot count? It's 1/4 mile.

You could always join a gym, they're pretty cheap these days. I tend to "reward" myself with lifting weights and that gets me to the gym. Then while I'm there I figure I might as well do 30 to 60 minutes on the elliptical.

Sure, do it four times. I'm pretty sure the minimum is a mile.

Most fitness people I've read say that it is the cumulative exercise over the day that counts. Since it is 1/4 mile to the office, that means you get 1/2 a mile just from that every day.

Maybe he inspired the horse running around 35W this morning.
I think it got around a mile or so or coverage before they got it in a trailer.
Walk, run, bike, hit the gym and do some miles.
A mile isn't that far, especially if you tackle it at your pace. Walk if you can. I started running slowly, much slower than I could so that I didn't burn out. I think my first few were in the 12-13min range, just to get moving every day.

It's definitely cumulative, but some minimums at a time matter. I think 15-20 minutes is usually seen as a good block of time.
The first 2-3 months I mostly ran about 14-18 minutes every day. Not much more than a mile, and not fast. Sometimes I didn't even think I'd worked out when I finished, but I was surprised how strong my lungs and legs were just from a little effort.

Does going down the stairs and way to the back of the office towards the beach to take a smoke break count for this? 🙂
