What's with the watermark on our SSC ??Is it webmaster fun, or is SSC changing logo ?
Where do you see this watermark?
I get to see it in the non-colour-filled spots like quotations, ... on the top right corner of the page
I added an image of what I get to see in the attachment on my original reply
I guess it's a bug, but I see it as well. Maybe something from the peel?

It is just a random set of wasted bits called Misc_Quotes.gif (attached) which is the background image for a div element with class "quote". (Defined in /forums/skins/classic/Style/Style.css)
This is the "watermark":
And here it is with a blue fill so you can see the shape:
Thank you for putting my mind back at ease :hehe:

Nah Steve, it is just part of the "Classic" skin - see my post for details of where it is defined in the skin.

Jim,If I've read things right, you're going to the Summit? Do you know that Thursdays up there is "Kilt Day"? Grant started it... he can fill you in on it!
You've pretty much nailed it. Day 2 of the Summit is Kilt Day. Day 2 this year is Thursday. Wear a kilt, traditional or not, for no other reason than because we can and it's fun. Two years ago it was three people. Last year it was about 25. Hopefully this year we'll break 50 or more.
I don't have a kilt anymore. Mine was provided by the band and in the bands clan (Royal Stuart since we were a police band). My family's clan is Gordan.
So did 25 people rent a kilt (except Tom) or do most folks own one? What about the socks (and sock 'dressing' flag looking things which I forgot the name of), Skain Du, and sporran?
Most of us are not wearing traditional kilts. I have two utilikilts (almost 3, visited the store for the first time on Sunday).
"almost 3"? Now I have this horrible image of Grant in a mini-kilt stuck in my head...

Climate?
We are talking about Seattle, right? And not during July/August?
It'll be rainy and gray. Seattlites don't tan, we rust. The city flower is mildew, the city animal is the slug. (Yes, I grew up there. But I got out early for bad behavior.)
Yeah, Seattle reminded me of Oban except that in Seattle the snow settled closer to the sea than it did in Oban, the beer was absolutely beyond awful (it's only barely beyond awful in Oban), and the city is much much bigger. The thing that I remember about it most is the climate (grey, rain, snow too often). Mostly I don't remember the beer - I try to forget nightmares.
I liked Seattle becaue it reminded me so much of a town (An t-Oban) such a small distance - only 111 miles - from one of my favorite places which has (like neither Seattle nor An t-Oban) a decent climate and drinkable beer.
The other thing I remember about Seattle was flying in from SF, which was the worst airline experience I've ever had, with an airline with the most "we don't care about you customers, screw you" attitude I've ever met. I think they must have hired former (USA) immigration officials as their customer facing staff. My appreciation of that flight wasn't helped by my having picked up some sort of bug that rendered me three quarters deaf with severe earache in both ears, hoarse with throat sore enough to make me glad I had only one, and permanently breathless with chest pains while in Harvard a week or so before, but others on the flight who weren't inflicted with the bug took the same view of the airline as I did.

Now I can look forward to working on fun, interesting, complex stuff (like automating an entire SQL environment from scratch, designing nasty-complex systems for forecasting) rather than producing lists of all databases in the environment and helping with user queries. If your rates are right for the first half of that (and your rates should be), then I'm flabbergasted anyone would even consider having you do the second half of that!
When someone considers both the first half and the second half to be magic, they're not going to expend what little brianpower they have differentiating between levels of magic.
Except for those who have the skills for the second half, the workload of the second half, and the pay of the first half. Not unfortunate for them at all.
Though wasn't it the situation that Gail had the skills for the second half, the workload of the second half, and the pay of the first half? Isn't it now unfortunate that the situation has ended? π
But congrats Gail. I know what it's like doing work you thought you'd left behind in your career.

Didn't mean to imply you didn't, if it came across as such. Was alluding that the second half would be a wholly contained subset of the first half as far as technical ability was concerned - even if not for role requirements.
In fact, I'll admit I'm well convinced you have the skills for the first half, and I'm sure I'm not the first to confess.

I know what you meant. Just digging a little.
I've seen way too many cases where people have part 2 skills only and part 1 salaries (and hopefully part 2 responsibilities too). Can have nasty effects on morale of rest of team (assuming there is a rest of team)

I've also seen cases where people have no skills at all and part 1 salaries * 10.

Ah. I wasn't sure, but thought it better to be safe than sorry. (I figured that if Jeff is hooting pork chops, you'd probably hoot the whole pig. "Fire in the hole!")
