May be taking a "desert sabatical", if he was paying attention to The Thread.

What I didn't tell anyone is that the game i was officiating was my daughters JV Soccer Team. Thought I'd hear too much about conflict of interest before the game.
Any way, they almost won their first game. They scored first early in the second half (interesting first half by the way, called handling on the keeper and my partner and I had to do some explaining about the current interpretation of the laws of the game). Late in the second half, perhaps less than two minutes left, while battling to keep the ball out of the penalty area, one of her teammates tried to clear the ball, and instead of kicking it, it glanced off her shin guard and into their goal for an own goal for the other team. Game ended in a 1 - 1 tie.
My daughter was still excited as the first two games they played were 0 -9 and 0 - 8 blowouts they lost.
My daughter was also unhappy with my partner, as he should have been in position to call handling in the first half during the indirect free kick at the top of their opponents goal area. During that kick, the girls moved to where I could not see the initial handling. Really nice that she is also a trained ref, as when everyone yelled "hand ball", I responded with "didn't see it", she looked at my position and where the players were and silently agreed. She filled me in on this after we got home (I got home later as I had a U-12 soccer team to coach right after the game).
Over all, it was a good game, and I enjoyed watching her and her team from the best seat in the house, the pitch.

Most definitely, Steve !!
Being the all-American Dutch-Scots-Irish-German-with-a-touch-of-snapping-turtle boy that I am, I am wearing the green and would proudly quaff a green beer with you in about two hours. What time is it where you are?

Please, quaff one for me as well. Sorry my wife would kill me for drinking any beer, green or not!

How about explaining this to us too? I haven't been involved in soccer for about 5 years because of work, family, and moving so I've fallen a bit behind on any changes.

It sounds like a great game! I'm not a great sport watcher, as I prefer to be involved, so reff'ing to me seems like a good way of both being watching and still being involved.

I've got a couple of good friends who are, or were, referees, Bruce. They both felt it was a great way to be "in" the game, as well as having the best "seat" in the house.
Chris, great job of optimizing that last query.

It was supposed to be a CROSS JOIN but it didn't look right in the same sentence as beer:-P
