Heh. I'm surprised at 2 things.1. They all fit on one line (On my screen anyways).
2. I actually know what they all are!
Very nice list though.
Is it bad that as soon as I see "MVP" I prettymuch immediately forget about all the others? Perhaps I put too much emphasis on the title... but I think it carries a ton of weight. That and MCM are both prettymuch instant-credibility even if I know nothing else about the person. (I know they're very different)
Well, while being an MVP is a pretty big deal, it does not mean you have a higher knowledge. It's really more of an evangelistic award for promoting the product, helping out with the community, etc. over anything else.
From: The Microsoft MVP Award
The Microsoft MVP award recognizes technical community leaders who foster the free and objective exchange of knowledge by actively sharing their real world expertise with users and Microsoft. Microsoft created the MVP Award to honor and support the significant contributions of technical community leaders Worldwide.

I'm finally starting to look more at Visual Studio 2010 and I'm curious if any of the denizens of The Thread have played around with F#.Seems interesting even though you cannot use it in SQLCLR.
Nope. Haven't wrapped my head around Functional programming. Still stuck in OOP.

Is that like being stuck in this?

I saw the big bowl of alphabet soup get added onto Gus' signature and figured this would be the place to figure out what led up to it. Only had to read 3 pages back to find the change point! I'm still waiting to see Gail's list one day. =)If you insist...

Are those just the current ones? Shame you put it in your sig, when you change it the historical record will go away. (Sorry, I'm a nerdy historian-type mixed with packrat genes, I like being able to go back and check things) : -)

I've given the matter considerable thought, and have conclusively concluded that the posted questions are indeed getting worse.Bob - this is an old thread and is no longer about the original topic. <poke>
What? Who changed the subject? When did that happen?
As far as the original goes, I'm currently in the middle of answering someone on why .9-repeats is equal to 1. What's next? "Why is B after A in the alphabet?" Most of the people on that thread are treating it just as seriously as it deserves (jokes about beer-philosophy and such), but the question .... well .... (magoo jumped in and got a few people's goats - almost including mine - it was well done).

I don't know that I agree with that completely. MCM and MVP are definitely different in that MCM is pure knowledge/expertise where as MVP is more aimed at the community contributions... but in my experience it always goes hand in hand with a wealth of knowledge in your particular field. While there are certainly tons of brilliant sql server experts who are *not* MVP's, I don't think the flip side is true.
While I guess it's technically possible that you have someone who answers the same entry level questions thousands of times and writes tons of low level articles/blogs etc. or travels the country teaching people the basics of the select statement achieve the title, it seems very unlikely.

What would you say to finding MVPs who are plagiarizing content to either gain MVP or to retain MVP?

I wouldn't say a thing. I'd just report them to Global Admin. Let them handle things. I'm pretty sure that breaks at least one of the rules.
There are MVPs who give the program a bad name, they fortunately are rare, but they exist.

I think they ended up reported. I talked to the MVP who was Plagiarized by this 2nd MVP. Haven't visited his site since so don't know if it was corrected.
