Actually, the real acronym is almost funnier than the ones you guys came up with, when used on a forum:Do Not Resuscitate
We should put that on all the old threads that keep getting "resurrected"
Not to be confused with PBAMDRIBY ("Please, By All Means, Do Resuscitate, I'm Begging You!").

Could 42 possibly be the airspeed velocity of an unladen swallow?
Nope... it's the terminal velocity for a pork chop with a bone in it. 😀

Is that only for bones that you pick or will any ol' bone do?

What is the *REAL* question here? The one the thread started with 3 years ago, or the current ones being discussed (26000 posts later)?
I think Michael Earl should get some kind of award. We just need to come up with an appropriate accronym for it.

Hmmm. Interesting choice of words. I seem to recall that pork chops come out of your nose.

Tom, there's something I've been meaning to ask you, since I think you said earlier that you hail from Scotland, hence your sig.
I was reading a book set in Scotland where the author's husband asks her "If it's set in Scotland why don't more people say "Hoot, mon"?' This is turn reminded me of an old Goodies episode where the three of them set off to Scotland on their 3-person bike and ride across a sign written on the road in large white letters that says 'HOOTS'.
Can you tell me what Hoot means?
(It occurs to me at this point that I probably could've just Googled this, but I've already typed this far and as well I've been out of The Thread for too long and I'm desperate for any reason to post.)

Steve.
I doubt if googling it would turn up anything useful; probably just wikipedia entries for films called "Hoots Mon" (and IMDB entries, perhaps) and for the "moose loose aboot this hoose" pop song.
Common meanings assigned to "Hoots mon" are "Hey, look at that", "You are speaking from the wrong orifice, my friend", and "Pull the other one, it's got bells on", but I don't think I've actually heard anyone say it (as opposed to sing it - that awful pop song) other than on the stage or to ask what it means, and I suspect it's a phrase invented by comedians to use when imitating a lowland Scots accent. But then I'm not a lowlander, maybe people do say it in the lowlands.
Hoot of course is what an owl does, or the noise it makes, or a very loud laugh, or someting very funny; I don't think "Hoots" as in "Hoots, mon" is the plural of that. "Mon" is just "man".
