Are the posted questions getting worse?

No, the question is did you have to reverse the polarity of the neutron flow? Or do you only do that every other Tuesday after it rains?

I'm still hoping to one day find sp_MSGoBackInTime documented in BOL. It is THE essential tool for recovering your database when you never made backups. :hehe:

They renamed it in SQL 2008. It's now DBCC TIMEWARP. It takes 127 parameters, none of which are documented anywhere. Most of the parameters are for detailing your exact position in the space-time continuum and your precise momentum, both expressed in 12 dimensions.

    :w00t: :hehe:

But what are they using to power the Flux Capacitor?

    Wrong technology. TARDIS.

I've watched Dr Who, but not enough to have known that was what is time traveling device was called.

  • TARDIS = Time And Relative Dimensions In Space

for those of you who aren't familiar with Dr. Who. Although, I have to admit, my knowledge of the dear Doctor spans the last part of Jon Pertwee's reign, through Tom Baker and the first bit of Peter Davison. Past that, my knowledge is pretty much null.

My favorite quote is "What's the point of being grown-up if you can't act childish?" - Tom Baker's Doctor in response to being told to stop acting childish and grow up.

    "We're running out of time!"

Cannot run out of time. There is infinite time. You are finite, Zathras is finite. This is wrong tool.

Actually, they will be documented in the future, and if by chance you stumble upon the correct combination for the first 76 parameters, you can actually use it to go FORWARD in time and see the documentation. Of course, which alternate version of the documentation will depend entirely upon the remaining 51 parameters, the default values of which are all randomly generated. This of course makes it impossible to return to your timeline of origin, which means that the documentation viewed can never be the documentation for the version of DBCC TIMEWARP anyone is actually running. So the whole point is moot.

I understand why they felt they had to go to 12 dimensions, but it was awfully inconvenient for us since we have a lot of legacy code that relied on sp_MSGoBackInTime. But, the handwriting was on the wall when the old M-theory syntax was deprecated. So it goes.

  • Last time I checked this thread, we were all talking coherently about Roller coaster rides and the litigations. Now I read it, I have no clue what you all are talking about. Now I really understand why this is called THE THREAD. 😀

  • You really need to stay on top of THE THREAD, if you don't it will leave you hoplessly lost in the dark. Sort of like some users requirements.

  • I've gotten into the habit of opening the thread up in the morning and then hitting refresh every now and then to keep up. Makes for some entertaining breaks in the day.

  • The Thread is rather like the free-association of our collective consciousness. Or the nascent Skynet... whatever. You can get lost easily if you don't get the connection between peanut butter and jellyfish sandwiches and Kim Il Jung breakdancing.

I always love it when Steve comes back after a brief hiatus 😛

I've got my email subscription to "The Thread" still active and check it when there are 5-10 new posts, unless the thread is really active then I wait until 20 and I have time.

I use google often just to understand what is being discussed here.

  • I too have the subscription. When I come back from the weekend and check the email, I will have more than 100 emails from SSC. And 99% of them are from THE THREAD..

    😛
