Wow, you thought that there were too many other DBAs that were better suited than Brandie? That's not very nice...π
Funny, but you know this is not what I meant. At all.
Of course not, but English gives you so many opportunities to misinterpret things, which I find endlessly amusing.
Especially when written by Italian people... π
One of the more embarassing online conversations I ever got myself into, I actually asked the person what their native language was, and which translation tool they were using to get it into English, and it turned out they were born and raised in the US and "native English speaking". I swear the literacy was so bad I really did think it was something like Google translation from X into English, and I was hoping we'd be able to get a real translation. Made it very awkward to respond to that. (Haven't seen that person on the site in a long time. Never really did get over my faux pas.)
Was that in the last couple of years? Think I remember that...and if it's the one I'm remembering, I was right there with you.
About two years ago sounds right. The person had a huge chip on her shoulder about race and gender as well. I don't remember all the details, but it was messy.
Oh that one... I think many of us remember that incident. Badly.
Not your fault though.

I am totally new to blogging so this is just a guess, but can RSS syndication handle this? A lot of folks syndicate so their own blog posts from their personal blogs end up on SCC or SSPedia, etc.
On my website, I actually have two totally different WordPress 'blogs', one using a certain theme which looks more corporate for my main business pages (home page is very custom and all back pages have a right-hand bar with stuff on it), and a /blogs/jim area which is a totally different WordPress blog/theme/db. On my Corp back-pages, that right hand bar has a section of RSS entries which pulls in content overviews from the other WordPress site; including an image I think. If you allow your WordPress blog to 'shove all content over RSS', then your LJ blog can hopefully tap in and pull the content over.
I don't [know how to] syndicate, so others can explain that method.
I'm pretty sure WordPress has a built-in RSS feed. There should be a link on your main page.
There is. The placement of it is somewhat related to the theme being used. I'd recommend taking that feed and pushing it through feedburner though.
Also, with WordPress, each page (not post but page - look in the admin tool) has a feed. I think Categories also have a feed.

With a 6TB database I would be terrified to even apply for the job.
My first thought was "I wonder what their maintenance looks like.."
If I had to guess, I'd say 'Maintenance? What maintenance?'
Maintenance ? That's for cars, planes and trains :w00t:
You have to maintain cars????? You mean they really aren't supposed to require annual replacement????
You must drive a LOT if they require annual replacement.
About 500 miles per week, sometimes more. But the statement was meant to be humorous. "Meant to be" != "Was", apparently. π
Nah, it was humorous, I just have personal experience with how long you can drive a car with no maintenance. : -)
I had a car many years ago that I drove for 30,000 miles before an oil change (car was still under 50k at the time). Car was totalled in an accident during snow storm. At that time it had 141,000+ miles on it. The car was a real trooper. I was hard on it and it kept running.

I had a 1987 Hyundai Excel that I'd gotten new. I put 36,000 miles on it before any maintenance was performed. I ended up needing a new engine because I'd never changed the oil, I just kept adding more when it got low. No leaks, the oil just kept solidifying until a hose burst.

A friend of mine says that what a friend of his does is buy old clunker cars, usually for around $2,000 or so. Then the only maintenance he does is adding gas to the tank. The cars don't last long enough to need anything more than that. He usually goes through a car a year. Note that this is all friend-of-a-friend, so it may just be BS. But if it's true, he's paying less that way than most people making payments on a lease/lein on a more usual used car. Of course, he's also riding around in an old clunker that's likely to die halfway to work, and it certainly can't look good or be comfortable.

That's actually a fairly common situation for commuters out here (Chicago area) or for folks who live downtown. If the car is pretty much only used to get to and from the train station, a clunker works well. And if the car is routinely parked outside on Chicago city streets and where public transit is a fairly common mode of transport, well, I know several people who vote for the clunker approach...

Well, I paid $27,000 for my 97 Pathfinder. I got it new and it is still going. If you don't include maintenance and insurance, I've paid around 2K/Yr for the car and I've never had to worry about it. Plus, I've gotten tons of use out of it. It now has over 270,000 miles on it: 10 cents a mile. And that doesn't factor in utility: What I've saved with towing instead of delivery or renting trucks.
Of course, it also doesn't factor in maintenance, but that's just an oil change every 5K, tune-up every 60-100K, tires and a few real repairs.

Driving a Mercedes 300 1992 (Diesel with super charger) now at 303,562 miles. Change oil every 5,000 ... maintence every 10,000 costs $90.00, and runs like a charm averaging slightyl over 30 mpg

I googled "Livejournal integrate with Blosxom" yesterday but got a bunch of how to transfer over your blog from one to the other. The word "crosspost" did not occur to me. Shall have to research with that now.
FYI, if you have RSS, I can read your bloggety-blog-blog through the firewall π

My father would like your friend, although he NEVER would have paid $2,000 for a car. His averaged about $500 every time. I grew up driving a Ford Pinto, then a Mercury Bobcat (knock-off Pinto), then Ford Festivas (had about three of those, one of which my older brother TOTALED by running into a STOP SIGN when avoiding a stray dog.
I'm convinced he was trying to kill us off by buying unsafe cars to save him even more money, but that may be unfair...
