5) No 401k free money
Actually, if you look into the different retirement accounts you can setup as a self-employed individual (in the United States) you can actually set one up that allows you the "free" money. It helps you put aside more for retirement. Key to it though is having a successful business. May not help much at the beginning as you are first starting out.

I don't know what this is. Can you explain?
You don't get free money??? :w00t: :hehe:
After all, be lucky you are not freelancing in Belgium, we can pay up to 50% on taxes here
(and even more on bonuses...)
Italy is just 4 positions behind the top:
48,9% Denmark
48,2% Sweden
44,4% Belgium
43,6% France
43,3% Italy
43,0% Finland
41,9% Austria
38,0% Netherlands
37,2% Spain
36,9% Luxembourg
36,6% United Kingdom
36,6% Portugal
36,6% Germany
32,2% Ireland
Data is actually from 2008, but still significant.

5) No 401k free money
I don't know what this is. Can you explain?
A 401k is a U.S. tax-deferred retirement plan offered through an employer, usually in place of pension benefits. 401k plans can usually be invested in any number of mutual funds or stocks by each individual instead of having the company make that decision for everyone (which they do for pensions). Also, many large companies offer a dollar for dollar match (or .50 cents on the dollar) for the first 5-6% of the employee's salary put into the plan.
The last bit, the employer match, is free money. It's considered "fully vested" so you can take it with you when you leave the company. Which is why you'll hear a lot of financial advisors in the States telling people "don't leave free money on the table" when they're talking about 401k plans.
Not all companies offer a match. And not all companies offer the 401k (it's not required by federal law). But a lot of companies have picked up the 401k because it's easier to deal with then the pension plans of the old days.
In case my explanation is not sufficient, here's the explanation from financial firm Edward Jones: http://www.edwardjones.com/en_US/products/retire/business_plans/401k/index.html

I have an idea for one of persons who want to go to SQL Pass summit for free (Except air travel). Make list here who wants to go and we nominate each one of them to the contest of "Exceptional DBA of the Year". Redgate will sponsor their stay, pay for the summit and also give some pocket money.
Steve, You did not see this post.. 😉
I never posted this and no one else ever read this post... 😀

Or anyone who wants to go nominates themselves for the award. It's open to self-nomination and when I judged a couple years back most nominations were self-nominations.

Tempting, but there are too many other DBAs who are much more talented than I am that deserve the award far more than me.

Wow, you thought that there were too many other DBAs that were better suited than Brandie? That's not very nice...
😛
Side note Brandie, you should let other people determine that, not sell yourself short right out of the (red)gate.

Enter. There is nothing to lose (other than a bit of time in setting up the nomination)

Of course not, but English gives you so many opportunities to misinterpret things, which I find endlessly amusing.
