Are the posted questions getting worse?

Hey all, sorry I fell off the earth a bit, even when I had an article go up. Thanks for the applause those who posted, and specifically to Koen for fielding the one specific question that came up. πŸ™‚

In regards to this series I'm writing, a question for the folks here. Which of these would you like to see more:

    - A business side look at why businesses should hire DBA's, and where's the value over hiring app programmers who can write sql.

    - Moving on: How to work with your employer to NOT burn your bridges.

    - Team dynamics: Ways to become involved with your new employer successfully.

Can PM me if we don't want to fire up a long discussion here.

    Last one

They all sound good. Why not one big ol' 3.5 hour session?

First step towards the paradigm shift of writing Set Based code:
________Stop thinking about what you want to do to a ROW... think, instead, of what you want to do to a COLUMN.

Change is inevitable... Change for the better is not.

  • Phew. Still at #SQLRally. So much fun and the sessions are very nice. Had a chance to meet a few folks like Wayne, Gus and Lowell, among others.

Also had a chance to meet and talk with Brian Moran. He's back! What a funny and oh-so-bright guy.

I had a part with a few other folks in the Kevin Kline Overdrive session this evening. It was about horrible interviews - 3 bad examples. I interviewed Tim Mitchell and I played the role of "the talker". Only let Tim say 4 words because I kept interrupting and 'clarifying' the question and pretty much nearly answering it for him. The crowd seemed to really enjoy the whole segment/discussion.

    More on Friday...

  • Having a great time at SQL Rally too. Met Grant, Jack, Gus, Wayne, Lowell, Tim, and a new guy Jim, I had not met here before. πŸ™‚

Had to laugh when Grant mentioned DBCC TimeWarp in a presentation. πŸ˜€

Later folks. Back to getting ready for another day of learning.

So it's a snow day here, kids off from school. I've already fired up the tractor, been up and down the driveway twice to plow out and the road once, and pulled the Suburban out of the ditch it slid into so my wife could make a flight to LA.

Am I done for the day? Is that enough?

Steve, I think you should know some messages are apparently getting posted a few months late.

Sorry it has been a rough day for you, but I appreciate your posting it so I can mention it to people here in Boston that have been complaining about the weather lately.

A bunch of people from work were outside smoking in the rain the other day and they were really getting it on about the weather here in Michigan. I asked them when was the last time a large area of Detroit had been contaminated by a nuclear reactor which was broken by one of the largest earth-quakes ever or when the last time an entire city in Michigan had been wiped off the map by a Tsunami or the last time millions of people in Michgan were affected by the worst flooding from the Mississippi in history or the last time thousands of homes had been wiped out by tornados or wild fires?

I saw those same people today... they weren't talking about the weather. πŸ˜›

Yes they were, they just weren't doing it WITH YOU!

And she's 100% correct. Man, that was fun. Hopefully you guys will love the video when it comes out. DBCC TimeWarp was mentioned.

I find it a good question.

You must of course be able to read English, but that's with most things on this site πŸ˜€

Only the points were a bit low though, I'd expected at least two.

I have to admit the "can" threw me when I read it. I saw two answers that were conflicting, but when I re-read, I got the intent. However I think that "can" threw enough people I moved it to "may".

The row across pages item seems correct to me, though I agreed with you at first.

I thought I wrote it as "data pages". Didn't I?

Perhaps. I think I altered it since the LOB data part wasn't included. Data could include LOB.

I think it was a good attempt, but the wording for this one was hard. Mr. Randal just smacked me again on it since the extents in a mixed allocation are "owned" by the system, not objects.
