  • So it's a snow day here, kids off from school. I've already fired up the tractor, been up and down the driveway twice to plow out and the road once, and pulled the Suburban out of the ditch it slid into so my wife could make a flight to LA.

Am I done for the day? Is that enough?

Steve, I think you should know some messages are apparently getting posted a few months late.

Sorry it has been a rough day for you, but I appreciate your posting it so I can mention it to people here in Boston that have been complaining about the weather lately.

You haven't delivered the presents yet, Mr. Hawaiian Santa Claus, Sir. @=)

  • LOL, feels like it's a few months late. It's May 12, and while we've had snow in Mar (and June), we've never had a blizzard. This is the biggest storm of 2010-2011, kids are thrilled to have no school, with school ending next Thur for the year! Supposed to be field day tomorrow for my little girl, summer games outside all day, but I suspect that will be canceled.

  • Just got a job req email for a .Net position. Some strange requirements though.

Is demon rating how you get certs? πŸ™‚

  • Maybe someone should point out to then that it's not just job applicants who need to just spell/grammar checkers on their job applications.

I have heard of (and held) some soul-crushing jobs in my day...the economy must be worse than first thought if they're asking for demon ratings now too πŸ˜› http://community.dice.com/t5/Tech-Career-Advice/Demons-ratable-engineering-problem-solving-skills/td-p/79804

  • why do I need an iPad2? suggestions? (32GB wifi version, guy at work selling it)

    my list so far:

1 - I can use it for my schoolwork online, reading the lectures, posting in the discussion board, etc, without having to hold my laptop on my lap/use a mouse/type on a keyboard (I'd get Swype, to alleviate my carpal tunnel issues - and probably create new ones)

2 - it's cool. But it's new, and maybe the novelty will wear off.

3 - I can read books from the library on it. Potentially schoolbooks, will have to check into that.

4 - games? might be more for my wife than me there.

5 - handy picture-sharing. This is kind of a lame one, I don't do much of this. But I guess I might if I had one.

What am I not thinking of? And if I got a Droid/iPhone, would I still use it for anything?

    Err... you don't. πŸ˜‰

    No swype on the iPad.

e-books and writing was the main reason I got mine. Excellent for reading, far better than computer screen. OK for writing, I get a lot of blog posts mostly written on the iPad, but have to go back to LiveWriter/wordpress editor for final touches

4 - games? might be more for my wife than me there.

    It's excellent for gaming.

  • Thanks Gail! No Swype just sucks. That may be a deal-breaker, it won't be better for my wrists to type on that virtual keyboard than use my ergo one.

Demons and ratable code along with something about bugs. The only thing missing is a bunch of talkative, beer popsicle loving, dust bunnies and you have a picture of my mind. πŸ˜€

A bunch of people from work were outside smoking in the rain the other day and they were really getting it on about the weather here in Michigan. I asked them when was the last time a large area of Detroit had been contaminated by a nuclear reactor which was broken by one of the largest earth-quakes ever or when the last time an entire city in Michigan had been wiped off the map by a Tsunami or the last time millions of people in Michgan were affected by the worst flooding from the Mississippi in history or the last time thousands of homes had been wiped out by tornados or wild fires?

I saw those same people today... they weren't talking about the weather. πŸ˜›
