Interesting blog post from Roy. Anyone ever tried this?I used to go to a networking conference with my boss. A bit of a boondoggle, but I did get to point out some cool equipment and it definitely helped me get some things approved.
I commented on Roy's post. Yeah, when we started our user group our boss attended the first few meetings. It was helpful. But then when he stopped going it wasn't so much.

I definitely think if you can get your boss to go it can definitely help you show the value of community involvement.

You can only say that once. I don't know if you had anything to do with it but congratulations either way. 🙂

Secondary assistant organiser (I pretty much just did the liaison with PASS role and some advertising) and speaker.
It went very well. Far better than I feared. Fairly good turnout for here, about 50 people. One speaker cancelled on us last minute, no major technical glitches.
I need to check with PASS, but I think we're the first SQL Saturday to have presentations from remote speakers using Live Meeting.

Glad it went well, and very glad it was better than what you expected. Sounds like the LiveMeeting presentations went off okay also.
Bummer about the last minute cancellation.
Congrats!

From my perspective the livemeeting presentations went very well. I had one glitch near the end of my presentation (<5 minutes left) so just wrapped things up.

Very cool. And, no, I've not heard of an SQLSaturday that used remoted speakers. That's actually a pretty neat idea especially for more remote areas.

Excellent! I am thrilled that you put this on and that it was a success.
I have to say, I was interested all day, in checking back to this thread to see how things went after you posted that you were off to the event.

I just registered for the PASS Rally in Orlando. Wasn't sure I'd be able to get the time/money for it, but it worked out. See you there if you'll be there!
Grant, I couldn't afford the extra $199 for your pre-session (or whatever they're calling those), otherwise I'd check it out.
This'll be my first SQL event other than presenting at Jack's group a little over a year ago. Should be interesting.
